@WomenInCrimLaw@HMCTSgovuk@SercoGroup This almost happened to me 4 years ago at Wolverhampton CC sitting in the mags court. Cells staff didn't want me to see my client when I was pregnant but I insisted. They waited outside the door of the consultation room "in case anything happened." Guess what? Nothing did!
This cannot go on. I refuse to continue sacrificing my own wellbeing to prop up a broken CJS. Our goodwill has run out. Pay us properly and respect the vital work we do. That is not an irresponsible demand. #barristerstrike#actionforjustice
Does £10.30 an hour on a murder case seem reasonable to you @MoJGovUK@DominicRaab@Dines4Dales? Or does that sound "irresponsible"?That is what I will be paid for defending a vulnerable teenager charged with the most serious of criminal offences. (Thread 1/4)
That doesn't include taking notes, drafting advices, conferences, legal research or even just time to *think* about the evidence. Purely just reading time. The crown accepted a plea to Manslaughter so it is classed as a "cracked trial" and the fee is £2575. For 250 hours.
A warm welcome to all the athletes coming to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games. Let me recommend a luxury spa where you can relax and unwind after your training - it’s on the Smallbrook Queensway and it’s called Snobs. #B2022
Every time I look at a photo of barristers attending a day of action demo outside a court, I always see faces I know, even off my usual circuit. We are a small band, and a united one. A point @MoJGovUK seem to miss.
@walter_piers@TheInnerTemple Congratulations! I was a crown court clerk too before my pupillage. It is a fantastic job and I wish you the best of luck 👍 😀
I may be able to help with some terminology here.
If you are a white person whose first response to Alex’s account (and the countless similar reports from other BAME practitioners) is to deny her experience, you’re not a “sceptic” or a “truth-seeker” - you’re a racist.
Chambers is delighted that our former pupil Hannah Gladwell has joined us as a tenant, practising in crime and family law. Welcome Hannah!

What a brilliant photo. Beautiful setting, the finger wag, the social distancing, Johnson’s face... I think it’s just the visual reminder that we live in a democracy
