@leeharris This is the voice of a ruling class that has lost the nerve to govern.
A Jewish community is gunned down at a Hanukkah celebration and the response is not to name the hatred, confront it, or defend the victims, but to scold the country for insufficient emotional hygiene. That isn't leadership. It's surrender. It replaces judgement with therapy-speak and calls it virtue.
"Detoxify how we think of people who aren't like us" is not a response to terrorism. It's an alibi. It shifts blame away from those who pulled the triggers and onto the society that was attacked. It tells the bereaved that the real danger is not murderous ideology, but the possibility that someone, somewhere, might draw the wrong conclusion.
This is what Orwell warned about: language used not to reveal reality, but to obscure it. Violence is dissolved into abstraction. Motive is treated as impolite. Ideology is waved away as a misunderstanding. The dead are honoured with platitudes while the living are instructed to feel better.
"Diversity is our strength" is not a fact. It's a slogan. And slogans are what politicians reach for when they have nothing serious to say. It's repeated at the graveside because it absolves the speaker of having to act. No borders enforced. No ideologies named. No consequences imposed. Just words, arranged to mean nothing.
It's because of politicians like Lola McEvoy that we are here. Because when hatred announces itself with bullets, they answer with mindfulness. When a minority is targeted, they lecture the majority. When the state is challenged, they retreat into sentiment.
A serious government would have said this: Jews were targeted because they were Jews. That is intolerable. We will defend them. We will confront the ideology that drove this. And we will not apologise for doing so.
Instead, we are offered moral fog, and told it is compassion.
@typoshop@CottonOn SO disappointing to see things like this in your stores over festive RELIGIOUS tradition. Not to mention that kids see this. Disrespectful, poor form and bad taste ππ» #typosouthafrica
