Phantom Blade Zero’s Hellwalker mode features dynamic enemy behaviour that feels like fighting another player:

"We want players to feel like they're actually controlling their character against another player.

In Hellwalker mode, we created this kind of dynamic behavior. We split the combos: instead of being a fixed sequence of 1, 2, 3, 4, we can now have 1, 3, 4 or 1, 4, 3.

The first previews of Phantom Blade Zero are here, and journalists are blown away.

Several outlets are calling its combat the most engaging since Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Some are already calling it their GOTY.

Here’s what journalists are saying:

• IGN: “The most stylish action game of the year.”

• Insider Gaming: “Possibly my game of the year.”

• CGMag: “One of the best action games of the year—perhaps even the decade.”

• The Outerhaven: “Excellent performance with no freezing, stuttering, or other issues.”

Game Informer also shared impressions after several hours with the game:

• Combat features incredibly fluid, motion-captured animations. Fights look like choreographed scenes from Chinese martial arts films.

• Levels offer more than enemy arenas. There’s stealth, shortcuts, exploration, and side quests.

• Level design resembles Souls games, but Phantom Blade Zero feels more forgiving of player mistakes.

• Boss fights feature unusual mechanics. For example, the dancing lion fight introduces pillars, fireballs, and additional enemies. If you die in the second phase, you won’t have to replay the first.

The game launches October 29 on PS5 and PC.
