“The heads of the Chiefs of Ontario and Anishnabek Nation say a Parliamentary committee rescinded an invitation to address MPs regarding Bill C-5 – the federal government’s One Canadian Economy Act.”
First Nations in Alberta would go to war if @ABDanielleSmith was to separate Alberta. From Sturgeon Lake Cree Chief Sheldon Sunshine (just one of many) telling it like it is:
“Dear Premier Smith:
You are attempting to manufacture a national unity crisis - by enabling a referendum on separatism and a fanatical cell of individuals - at the exact moment when Canadians need to unite against Donald Trump's America.
The province of Alberta is on Treaty lands.
Please be advised that your irresponsible statements and actions are in breach of Treaties No. 6, 7 and 8. We demand that you immediately stand down from this conduct.
Our Treaties are sacred covenants and are to last forever. Alberta did not exist when our ancestors agreed to share the land with the Crown. The province has no authority to supersede or interfere with our Treaties, even indirectly by passing the buck to a "citizen" referendum.
If you or any Canadians are not happy living on Treaty lands, they are free to apply for citizenship elsewhere.
Sincerely,
Chief Sheldon Sunshine
Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation”
AFN joins calls for repatriation of cultural items from Hudson’s Bay. Way to go @AMCMBChiefs@AFN_Updates. Nothing should be put to auction without giving us a chance to reclaim. https://t.co/GIcR9BoLyt
❌ CUTS Indigenous economic development funding
❌ ignores UNDRIP
❌ ignores Inuit sovereignty in the North
❌does not commit to clean water on reserve or recognizing a human right to water on reserve
As expected the Conservative platform side-steps reconciliation and ignores the principles of self-determination. Their Platform:
❌ will not continue to fund child and family services agreement
❌ does not mention fulfilling TRC Calls to Action or MMIWG Calls for Justice
The @liberal_party picked up a star candidate in former @gcccra Cree Grand Chief Mandy Gull-Masty as the Liberal candidate in the northern Quebec riding: Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou, which has a large First Nation and Inuit population. #indigenouscandidate#cdnelxn35 1/
Morgan Harris’s daughters and family have changed history. They would not back down when they were told no, that authorities would not search for their mother’s remains in the landfill.
Now, their mother is going home to them. It was a battle that played out publicly in front of Canada and the world. The genocide of our women and girls displayed in the most degrading and horrible way. But these daughters stood tall, the warrior blood in their veins carried them through to fight for justice. It took over two years. But, it’s proven our women matter. We are valuable and worth finding. Worth fighting for.
I am so proud of these girls. Here is a montage of some of the events of the past couple of years featuring Cambria Harris, Elle Harris and Melissa Robinson.

Neskantaga First Nation has issued this statement to mark the 30th anniversary of its boil-water advisory.
Having travelled to the community three times to report on this, I feel sadness & shame that media has failed to communicate the urgency of this. https://t.co/korwatM3Wx

Probably time to remind Albertan’s, Canadians & Americans that Treaties with the Imperial Crown exist and that Treaty lands, territories & resources subsidize Alberta & Canada’s economy, so Treaty Nations & Communities FPIC is required on changes to fundamental circumstances!
We should all support Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation (SLCN) in their effort to stop DANIELLE SMITH Alberta Premier, from giving KEVIN O’LEARY land, or other support for an AI Data Centre on SLCN Treaty #8 lands & waters without seeking their free, prior, informed, consent!
Caring for Elders is a responsibility that we all share.
