enforcement is the responsibility of the state—not vigilante citizens. And as Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi affirmed, this is not a once-off discussion, but the beginning of broader public engagement and policy advocacy.
We refuse narratives that pit Africans against one another…
and scapegoating to evidence, constitutional rights, accountability and Pan-African solidarity.
The dialogue highlighted the dangerous link between online disinformation, anti-migrant sentiment and offline violence.
As Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma reminded us, immigration…
Migration cannot be the scapegoat for governance failures.
The Beijing+30 African Women’s Movement brought together African leaders, diplomats, lawyers, researchers and civil society to challenge anti-migrant narratives and shift the debate from political rhetoric…
At the Beijing+30 African Women’s Movement Strategy Meeting, Mam’Mabandla reminded us why diversity and inclusion are non-negotiable. The hard-won gains of CEDAW laid the foundation for the Maputo Protocol, and we must continue to defend and deepen that legacy.
@FrancineHigham@geordinhl It would be so good to have the pool open all year long for us to use for training. So many of us doing open water distances and need this option.
@KirstenboschNBG@sanbi_za platforming The Kiffness after his racist, inflammatory statements is unacceptable.
Our public spaces must honour our Constitution, our history, and our humanity.
In marking World Mental Health Day, we look at mental health through a different lens. While conversations on gender, health, and human rights are evolving, access to sexual and reproductive health services and gender-affirming care remains limited by stigma, misinformation, and policy gaps.
@TsepisoMakwetla speaks to Dr. Marion Stevens (@marionwish), a sexual and reproductive justice advocate, mother and former health professional whose journey with her non-binary child reveals what it means to love, listen, and advocate in a society still learning to understand gender diversity.

I offer my deep condolences to the family, friends and fellow activists of Imam Muhsin Hendricks whose life was brutally ended by gunmen in Gqeberha this past weekend.
While we await the outcome of investigations, I am concerned about the reported likelihood of this being a hate crime against a religious leader who championed the rights and protection of LGBTQ+ Muslims and compatriots more broadly.
Like all South Africans, I anticipate that the perpetrators will be brought to book for this heinous attack.
@MikhailManuelCT@djlady_di@KarensComments@CityofCT@geordinhl Thank you.
Is it possible to think broadly about life guards. Clubs don't need them? Gyms and Schools don't have them?
I remember School galas being held there at night with lights on and champions being made.
Let's use this public resource better.
@MikhailManuelCT@marionwish@CityofCT@geordinhl Thank you for this reply. If we can't have longer hours, could we consider shifting the hours, by either splitting them between morning and late afternoon/evening, or opening and closing later (e.g. 1pm - 7pm). The 10am - 4pm plan is inefficient, as patrons are at work or school.
@marionwish@MikhailManuelCT@CityofCT@geordinhl Retreat pool is used throughout the year for swimming lessons and for swimming clubs. We need the same for Newlands. I think that NSRI volunteers do some of the learn to swim at Retreat.
