A donkey belonging to a Palestinian farmer was reportedly stolen and dragged to death behind a vehicle by Israeli settlers, including Avichai Suissa, an Israeli settler sanctioned by the EU, according to local reports.
🚨 BREAKING: Israel has killed Mohamed Fawaz al-Wahidi, director of public relations for the Egyptian Committee in Gaza, Tuesday evening in a strike on a civilian vehicle near the governorate building in Gaza City’s al-Sabra neighborhood, per the Palestinian Information Center.
Two other Palestinians, including a child, were killed alongside him and others wounded, per Arabi Post, bringing the day’s death toll from Israeli attacks across Gaza to six, amid ongoing violations of the ceasefire.
The Egyptian Committee, established by President Sisi, is Cairo’s official relief arm in Gaza, distributing food, housing displaced families in camps it built at Netzarim, and clearing rubble.
Israel has killed its personnel before: in January, an Israeli drone struck a vehicle carrying committee workers filming a new displacement camp near Netzarim, killing five people including three journalists working for the committee. Israeli media reported Cairo sent an angry protest demanding explanations for that attack.
The targeted strike and killing of an official of Egypt’s own relief operation comes as Cairo hosts negotiations on the ceasefire’s second phase, with a Hamas delegation in its sixth day of talks there. Reports suggest the strike took place just before the Egypt-Argentina soccer World Cup match.
To recognize dehumanization, fear-driven narratives, and collective punishment when they happen somewhere else. The real test of any theory is whether we can still see those patterns when they unfold close to home, among people whose fears and traumas we understand. #genocide
"The dehumanization of Palestinians has become completely normal in Israeli public and political discourse," explains Yuli Novak, director of B'Tselem, describing the process that led to the genocide in the Gaza Strip. She calls on the international community to confront this reality of ongoing genocide.
Novak spoke on a panel with Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Dr. Noura Erakat, Dr. Josh Ruebner and Rebecca Abu Chedid, in the @Netroots_Nation annual conference for progressive activists, organizers, and policymakers in the US, held this year in Philadelphia.
