Today, @MSNBC announced that later this year it will take on a new name: MS NOW, which stands for My Source for News, Opinion, and the World. Here’s my take: For 30 years, MSNBC has relied on NBC News’ journalists, infrastructure, and newsgathering. In just a few short months, we will be part of an entirely different company with no affiliation with NBC News (which, by the way, I have deep admiration and love for as the network I grew up at). What does it mean for us? An independence and ability to chart our own course and rely on a new, nimble newsgathering arm that has only one priority: MS NOW. What does it mean for viewers? A new name, but Joe, Mika, Nicolle, Chris, Rachel, Jen, and Lawrence (the list goes on) all in the same timeslots, doing what they have always done. The name is changing, but we are not.
Since January, we have added Pulitzer, Emmy, Murrow, and Peabody award-winning journalists to our newsroom. We have been actively recruiting for 100 roles at a time when other organizations are shrinking. The network is doubling CNN’s audience. We are the #1 news network on YouTube. We are the #1 cable news network on TikTok so far this year.
Change requires flexibility, adaptability, and an open mind. This change is good for us.
