People still don't seem to know why Chelsea signed players on 8-year contracts. The main reason is amortisation. From a financial standpoint from the view point of, for example Chelsea, when they bought Enzo Fernandez on an 8 and a half year contract, they registered the player

This doesn't affect cash flow. Players wages affect cash flow, but both amortisation and players wages are recognised on the income statement.
