I've seen some as few as 2 shots, but the typical is 3-4. I'd hate to quote it that low to people in the future if the price went up. My quote is from Walgreens

@AltYelloNatPark @BRWildlifeCtr Those tests also require patient to already be showing rabies symptoms. Same argument as above. Otherwise they likely would not have a detectable amount of virus in their tissues. It can take months for some infected animals to be exhibiting symptoms and less for others.

@AltYelloNatPark @BRWildlifeCtr Already told you above why testing prior to display of rabies symptoms is not possible and even after, the detection is only 20% successful.

Don't mix your topics (rabies vs decline). That's makes for a very ineffective discussion if you're trying to change people's attitudes.

They already explained above that folks are unlikely to get a $500 series of 3-4 Prep, not covered by most insurance (in TX). Wildlife #s are not down because of suspected rabies euthanasia.

@AltYelloNatPark @BRWildlifeCtr Rabies virus antibody is detected in only 20% of unvaccinated rabies patients tested within 1-26 days after the disease onset (!). The incubation period for rabies is typically 2–3 months but may vary from 1 week to 1 year, depending on location of virus entry and the viral load
