Please be considerate to our wildlife when visiting the beach this weekend. It is in steep decline in the UK and small actions by everyone can have a huge effect in helping our beach nesting birds such as Ringed Plover that are hatching eggs now 🙂

Lots of you will be coming to the beach this sunny weekend. Me and my Ring Plover friends are currently nesting amongst the shingle and raising our chicks. We are very well camouflaged along with our eggs. You probably wont see us.

You can help us by giving space to any birds that fly from the shingle, walking below the tide line where we don't nest, keeping away from fenced off areas, keeping dogs very close to you and following instructions on signs. Our numbers are in sharp decline so every nest counts.

The repaired sections were bought back together this morning, floated out & anchored in the lagoon. 2/

The first Common Tern landed just over two minutes after the rafts were anchored 👀 3/

The team will be keeping a close eye on site as the season progresses. This is another worrying year for seabird colonies with HPAI (birdflu) continuing to lay waste & conservation efforts will be vital to bring about a recovery in future years 4/4 (More soon).

The tern rafts at our West Hayling project site are now back & full of terns! This is the scene this evening 🐤🥰 A mixed team of staff & volunteers from @RSPBPagham & @ProjectLOTE floated out the rafts this afternoon once repairs were finished & shingle topped up 1/

A great effort today by RSPB Pagham Harbour volunteers, wardens and LIFE on the Edge staff in completing the construction of the Tern rafts that allowed launching at West Hayling Island Oysterbeds. Up to 20 Common Terns were seen on the raft, very soon after deployment.

Tern rafts provide much needed safe nesting space for Common Terns as the black headed gulls have already taken the best real estate ☺️ on the islands.

It's that time of year when our endangered beach nesting bird, the Ringed Plover, is nesting on the beach at Hayling Island Gunner Point. With the help of our marvellous volunteers we have fenced off an area to help protect them and installed interpretation. @ProjectLOTE
