Chapter 26 of my historical novel, Maynard’s War, is out now.
I cried when I wrote this chapter, and I still cry when I read it.

Key point in Dan’s brilliant take down of fantasies of left on tax. Equivalent fantasy on right is huge painless spending cuts.
We can have bigger state and more tax on average earners. We can have smaller state and real cuts in public services/benefits.
Thats it. The choice
Billy Cobham, 81, on phenomenal form with the Guy Barker Big Band at Ronnie Scott's tonight.
I knew I should have bought tickets for the second show as well.
If there's a better drummer ...

The Bad Plus on top form @ronniescottsofficial tonight.
Four exceptional musicians playing some of the most exquisitely crafted #jazz you will ever hear.
Dave King's drumming never ceases to amaze.
Alert to the only person who can save many thousands of starving Palestinian babies in Gaza between now and the end of the month. The UN’s Humanitarian Chief Tom Fletcher told the BBC that 14,000 babies could die in a few days unless the trucks carrying food for them on the Gaza border—paid for by U.S. taxpayers—are allowed to enter and immediately reach their destination safely. Fletcher says thousands of trucks are right on the border ready to go, but are blocked by Netanyahu’s savagery.
Netanyahu broke the truce you took credit for earlier this year. Put an American flag on each one of those trucks that American taxpayers paid for and order them into Gaza immediately. Netanyahu would never dare to try to defy you in such a dire crisis with the whole world watching. Also, tell him to let American reporters in to tell the American people what is being done with their tax dollars. He arrogantly has been blocking them for years. Tell him, also, to reinstate the ceasefire. There is no fighting in Gaza now, according to Israeli media. Only Israeli government terrorism obliterating human beings and what is left of the buildings there.
As you once claimed, “I alone can fix it.” -R
If you suffer from #migraine and you've struggled to find an effective treatment, read my latest post.
After 20 years of increasingly frequent attacks, I've been migraine free for 6 months now, thanks to a drug I was prescribed for something else.

He’s absolutely right: it is a coup, and the mainstream media need to start reporting it as such.
But what to do about it?
In my short story How it Ends I imagine one potential solution.

Update of a piece I wrote in 2008 on Holocaust Memorial Day.
Spoiler alert: things are a lot worse than they were 17 years ago, which is why it's still the most important day of the year.
