Hello my dear Friends and Comrades,

When we started out on this journey three and a half years ago, we faced a daunting task. Although the defamation case against Jeremy was eventually settled out of court shortly before it came to trial, both sides were left to pay their own legal costs. For Jeremy, these costs were originally invoiced at £1,445,000.

After negotiations with Jeremy’s lawyers lasting several months, the final legal bill came to £786,000, still an enormous figure. But I’m now delighted to tell you that sufficient funds have been raised to pay these costs, freeing Jeremy of this huge financial burden.

Amazingly, almost two thirds of the money raised has come from the more than 27,000 donors who have given a total £536,501 to Jeremy’s Legal Fund. 

Your donations have played a huge part in what has been a massive display of solidarity with Jeremy and I have no doubt your generosity has inspired many of the larger donors who have raised the remainder of the money needed.

In light of the above, I have now closed the fund to further donations. It will remain open, however, for updates. The donate button will disappear but I'll still be able to share with you news of Jeremy’s work and campaigns going forward.

There has always been  more to this fundraiser than donations. Over the last three and a half years I have received hundreds, possibly thousands, of lovely emails from you. I can assure you I read them all. Your words have encouraged and supported all of us in team JBC as we faced challenges we had not expected.

If I were to sum up what this fundraiser has meant to us all, it is that we are a community. Like minded people from all walks of life, we stand for justice, integrity and truth. We are socialists and proud to be so!

Despite the despicable political attempts to take away our voice, we socialists will not be cowed, nor will we be silenced. We stand strong in our beliefs that a better world is possible. Never has there been a time when our vision is so needed than it is right now.

Thank you to all of you who have given so unstintingly to defend Jeremy, a truly honourable and honest man, a true socialist who has planted the seeds of hope in each of us.
