A passion for the marine environment and unlocking its aquaculture potential, my research focuses on new species development, macroalgae & IMTA implementation.
@IMTA_UCT_DFFE I am extremely excited to be take this next step, although l am sad to be leaving such a great team, you will definitely not be forgotten. Australia/South Africa collaborations incoming🇦🇺🇿🇦

Great presentation from John Bolton (@UCT_news) at #AE22RIM this morning!👏
➡️ Daily rhythms of critical #WaterQuality parameters in commercial land-based, partially recirculated #abalone / #ulva integrated aquaculture systems, & the potential for increasing recirculation rates
Excited to be here in Rimini, Italy for our Annual Project Meeting! 🇮🇹

@JanousekWild There are isolated populations in Cape Town, depending on where you found it? most likely sources would be from Kommetjie or Robben Island, I would say. We are currently part of a UK Aid project researching its aquaculture potential so can confirm it is found in SA.
Seaweeds are known for their health benefits, one of which is as a natural source of Iodine, which we use to make Thyroxine. #seaweedhealth#amazingalgae
Did you know that you can make iodine from seaweed? A saltpeter farmer and chemist, Bernard Courtois, made the discovery when cleaning vats of seaweed ash with concentrated sulfuric acid and he noticed whisps of purple vapor forming! #chemed#iteachchem#chemistry
Dr Leigh Livne visited Seakura farm in Michmoret, Israel to gather 5 kg of fresh Ulva for a chef demonstration by Chef Boaz Tzairi in Tel Aviv.
The demonstration will be held during the #Conference in #Cadiz in 2 weeks!

#Throw🔙 Our partner @UCT_news & Dr Maria Darias from IRD, conducted an Integrated #Aquaculture training course at @University_MU organised by the @afrimaqua network!
They highlighted the importance of the #ASTRAL project and shared some of the #IMTA research we are doing! 🙌
