15/ A short detour to highlight the worst DM of all time
"Can I ask you a question?"
This is utterly pointless because if the answer is going to be "no", then it would be "no" anyway and if it is going to be "yes" you wasted a cycle
Can confirm every word of this description is accurate. Latency scaling and throughput scaling are fundamentally different processes, each with their own divergent goals and skills.
1/ It's not widely understood outside the industry how prolific software developers need to be at successful trading firms and quant hedge funds.
The tech involved, comments on developing software at Jane Street, and differing approaches to software between finance and big tech:
I interpreted the extreme umbrage with which he took my opinion ("you, sir, are the fucking problem with TradFi. Jesus." - apparently that was mean? idk), as equivalent to the guy who cuts you off in traffic and then gets all road-ragey when you honk your horn.
Once had a "401(k) retention specialist" with TD Ameritrade Retirement (I think) get all up in my face when I expressed to him that his company and his job title were two of the biggest problems with TradFi.
They try to convince you that you should stay. If that doesn't work, they start throwing hoops up for you to jump through. They get a bonus every time a former employee gives up and leaves their funds in the 401(k) instead of moving them elsewhere.
If only there were some way to take financial control away from huge banks and hand it over to individuals. We could call it... Decentralized Fianance (DeFi for you normies out there).
Over the last 30 years, the biggest banks have gotten even bigger — putting our entire financial system at risk. The bank merger process is fundamentally broken and it's time to end the rubber stamping by regulators. I'm glad the @FDICgov Board is exercising its authority.
