The majority of violence happens behind closed doors so how do you ‘patrol that out’? The rest is either so sporadic that it’s impossible to target or Night Time Economy violence where folk are too drunk to notice or care whether police are there! #Prevention#EarlyIntervention
It’s clear in the #SpringStatement2019 that most, if not all, of the £100m extra funding to be tough on violence will go towards police overtime, but no extra funding will be tough on the causes of violence & this means dealing w/ the normalisation of violence, fear, trauma #ACEs
This article picks out a PCC for groundbreaking EI work that should be the norm. @Stephen_Mold should also be applauded for his support of the Northampton Early Intervention Hub @ei_hub, the evaluation of which lands soon!

There have been 5 fatal stabbings in 9 days across London that are showing no sign of slowing down, not to mention the larger number of life changing stab injuries. @MOPACLdn, @metpoliceuk & #LondonVRU please understand you can’t #StopAndSearch or arrest your way out the problem!
"A lot of these young people are suffering from adverse childhood experiences, and come from traumatised communities," @LeroyLogan999 told HuffPost UK https://t.co/yyb3b9YnlC
Needs prevention at all levels including enforcement but the core issue is a lack of empathy and there are amazing tested ways to rectify this in primary schools. e.g. #RootsofEmpathy We know which schools need this most in high ACE areas!
Louise Casey is right about the emphasis on prevention - that is at heart of national #seriousviolencestrategy and over £200m public money committed to community based early intervention work to steer young people away from bad choices that have devastating consequences .
Policing has a key role in #EarlyIntervention e.g. supporting agencies to access police information and engaging hard to reach families. PCSOs are amazing at problem solving in families with partners. Peel never invented Policing as just an enforcer.
This debate is important & there are a range of views but prevention always better than cure & seeing this as a policing issue is doomed to fail. I agree this needs concerted effort, resourcing & intervention across agencies & organisations

@GrahamAllenMPX Thank you Graham that’s very kind and very humbling from ‘the’ EI pioneer, we’ve got lots of good stuff getting wired in, I wish I could have done more. Ps I confess to using one of your slides :-)
Just finished my #ACE#earlyintervention input to nearly 800 front line staff in #NorthantsPolice before I retire. Super feedback and important insights from our practitioners captured. It’s been cathartic! Baton passed! #aceaware
@GrahamAllenMPX The ripples of the seminar you hosted #Westminster with @MaryGordonROE. Impact now in 19 classrooms in Northampton. Really good evidence of what you can achieve in partnership @NorthantsDCS @MarkEvans0119@KatieCohenROE @KidsAidUK @UniNhantsNews @nick_petford https://t.co/kmenOoLQhn
