Today, the Defence Forces Cavalry Corps Team (Callsign Shamrock 1) took home first place in the Bradley category in the 2026 Sullivan Cup. The Defence Forces Cavalry Corps team competed in the 2026 Sullivan Cup, hosted in Fort Benning, GA, USA. The purpose of the Sullivan Cup is to identify and recognise the most skilled armoured vehicle crews internationally. The competition consisted of gunnery live fire lanes by day and night, vehicle maintenance, crew knowledge, call for fire, AFV recognition, medical lanes and physical fitness challenges.
Our team had a two week window to train up in theatre on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle having never used the platform before. After completing two weeks of training successfully, the competition started on 30 APR 26 and the Cavalry Corps emerged as the winners.
Some people might remember the magnificent Hauntings soldier sculpture from the centenary of the Armistice in 2018 when it was installed in St Stephen's Green for a time and thousands came to see it. It's now installed opposite the New Menin Gate in Ieper and is a memorable backdrop for the Last Post ceremony every night.
Thesis: Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers accidentally kneecapped the WWII movie as a genre.
Everyone said "well, we can't top that," and now every entry is "come marvel at the DARING nerds who solved logistical problem" https://t.co/9p0bdsPSNk
Nervous as hell for this
Forecasts were so important to the UK, the RAF sacrificed planes & parts to keep Ireland’s pilots in the air reporting
But the Blacksod & general forecasts were just a tiny facet of Ireland’s extensive and exclusive contribution to the Allies
Have the researchers delved into the story to discover Ireland was risking its neutrality across dozens of categories to aid the Allies? Or the 9% of Irelands population that went to the UK
Or will the forecast & its sender be framed as some outlier, some exception to the otherwise ‘strict neutrality’ claimed in the 20th century, but long since shown to be inaccurate following declassification in 1999? ⬇️
A nation waits…

Last week, we hosted a few VIPs from Ardoyne Youth Club - which has been working to improve the lives of young people in North Belfast for 50 years - it’s also the very place where Jack grew up, which made the visit all the more special.
