Parents r concerned about myth that strength training will stunt child's growth. They don't think twice about their child play 6-7 bball games in weekend tournament + do this month after month after month from elem age thru hs. That's a huge recipe for long term disastrous injury
Got to see almost all of the kids I used to coach play this high school season.
All healthy.
All strangely tall.
All with funny high school hair cuts.
It makes me happy seeing how far they’ve come - and excited for how much further they can go.
If you had a bad girlfriend in 9th grade, you wouldn't let that keep you from trying again.
Same goes with PT. If you're in pain, and want to get out of it, there are people who can help you.

Just because you had a bad experience with physical therapy once before, don't let that keep you from trying it again.
Much of the PT world could use a revamp, but there are many many smart, innovative, caring PT's out there who can help guide you out of pain.
I'd like to "reclass" from adult life this year:
No bills
No taxes
No responsibility
Just one year to develop and prepare so I can compete with the adults a year younger than me next year.
See how silly that sounds? But its okay to put kids through?
2. Learn that not everything is given to you, work extra hard to earn a spot to play, sit the bench and learn from mistakes, put in extra time in the weight room/field/classroom.
And triumphantly earn a starting spot 1 or 2 years down the line.
Physical therapy is a better profession than the naysayers would have you believe.
There is a LOT more options with what to do with the degree than the masses think.
We need MORE people to share the variety of options they’ve been able find in their professional lives.
Apparently kids are being held back in middle school now to have a better chance at standing out on their high school teams. I am definitely missing something.
What’s the number one thing you need to do to prepare during this offseason?
I don’t know. I haven’t assessed you. Be wary of people who sell you blanket statements with generalized programs.
Instead of holding your kid back to excel at their sport, here’s a better solution: let them be a kid since all sports even out in high school anyway.

Holding kids back to excel at their sport disregards all of the friends they’ve made, wastes an entire year of learning, and lets them be known as the kid who didn’t pass 8th grade. All to play 7 more games as a freshman?
Baseball trends that don’t make sense to me - aggressive scap loading. You need the scapula to move freely on ribcage to get fully overhead, why are we pinching it to the ribcage as hard as we can?

If you can’t properly put force into the ground through your big toe, ankle, knee and then hip in that order, then chasing hip internal rotation is pointless.
Spring seasons are wrapping up. Here’s 3 things you can do to dominate the offseason.
1. Take time off of baseball
2. Get a professional movement assessment
3. Improve motion & force output, in that order
