Answers to Animal House questions everyone asks. Yes, I still have the smashed guitar. The entire cast signed it. Yes, John really did smash that guitar over my head, I knew it was coming, we talked about the scene before doing it, but it was terrifying nonetheless. We only did this scene in two takes. No, this scene was not originally in the script. “I Gave My Love A Cherry” or “The Riddle Song” is a 15th Century English folk song. We used it as it was public domain, so there were no licensing fees. I wrote/sang the theme to the film, “Animal House,” and another song called “Dream Girl.” Yes, that really is me, they had me shave my beard, and John Landis’ wife, Deborah, pinned my long hair back to make it short. Judy Belushi is behind me in the scene. I miss John and Judy every day, two wonderful wild friends.
