One thing that’s already happening as the current downstep gets started is mass layoffs among the salary class, and that’s going to have massive ripple effects, as salary class expenditures have been supporting whole sectors of the economy in recent years.

Another, at least here in the US, is the gutting of the graft economy that battens on government expenditures; again, the ripple effects are going to be spectacular.
