Russia’s full-scale war will soon enter its 4th year.

It is not only the destiny of Ukraine that is at stake.

It is Europe’s.

We must keep empowering Ukraine’s resistance with weapons and ammunition.

And make 2025 a year of progress for countries on their merits-based EU path

This is how Russia wages war—Sudzha, Kursk region, Russian territory, a boarding school with civilians preparing to evacuate. A Russian aerial bomb. They destroyed the building even though dozens of civilians were there.

This is how Russia waged war against Chechnya decades ago. They killed Syrians the same way. Russian bombs destroy Ukrainian homes the same way. And even against their own civilians, the Russian army uses similar tactics.

This is a state devoid of civility. And this is an evil that will not stop on its own. But if we act strongly and decisively, even Russia can be forced to stop. And this must be done to ensure the world is safe from Russian bombs.

Today, I address all those who value Ukraine, cherish their state, and lovingly call it “Mine.” Those who cannot imagine themselves without Ukraine, no matter where they are. All those who have been fighting for it – so steadfastly and so bravely – for more than 1,000 days.

This is you – our people. Ukrainians – men and women. To all of whom I am grateful to for this year, 2024. Our people who endure all difficulties with dignity. People for whom being citizens of Ukraine is a source of pride.

For me, it is an honor to be the President of such people – Ukrainians who prove that no cruise missile can defeat a nation that has wings.

Ukraine deeply appreciates the United States’ steadfast support, especially as we approach the end of this challenging year. The nearly $2.5 billion in security assistance is a crucial contribution that will strengthen our defenders on the frontlines.

This support comes at a critical moment, as Russia intensifies its assaults, even resorting to involving North Korean soldiers and continuing to receive weapons from North Korea and Iran. Every act of solidarity from our partners saves lives, strengthens our independence, and reinforces our resilience. It also demonstrates that democracies are stronger then autocratic aggressors.

We extend our gratitude to President Biden @POTUS, leaders and members of both parties in Congress, and all American people for their unwavering support of Ukraine. From the very first days of Russia’s aggression in 2022, the assistance of America and other partners, combined with the heroism, bravery, and determination of the Ukrainian people, has played a key role in enabling Ukraine to defend its sovereignty, liberate significant territories from Putin’s criminal forces, and restore freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.

Russia and its evil axis accomplices speak the language of war crimes and intimidation. Together with the U.S. and other partners who share our values, we must respond with strength, dignity and an unshakable commitment to freedom.

We must continue moving toward peace through strength to achieve our common goal of peace in 2025—a goal shared by Ukraine and all its partners. Ukraine, which defends itself from brutal daily attacks, counts on our strategic friends.

It appears that Putin gave Fico the order to open the second energy front against Ukraine at the expense of the Slovak people’s interests. Fico's threats to cut off Ukraine's emergency power supply this winter while Russia attacks our power plants and energy grid can only be explained by this.

The only reasons Ukraine now needs to import electricity are Russia's occupation of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and its use of missiles and "Shahed" drones to purposefully destroy a large portion of Ukraine's heat and hydroelectric power generation.

Thanks to the heroic efforts of our energy workers and the life-saving cooperation with the EU, the U.S., the UK, Norway, Japan, and other partners we have managed to prevent a blackout in Ukraine. And now Fico is dragging Slovakia into Russia's attempts to cause more suffering for Ukrainians.

We need to remind Fico of three things.

First and foremost, supporting Russian aggression is completely immoral.

Second, Fico's shortsighted policy has already deprived the Slovak people of compensation for losing Russian gas transit. It now risks depriving the Slovaks of another $200 million per year, which Ukraine pays for the imported electricity. Yes, this critical import does not come free, and the cost is significant.

Third, everyone in Europe, including the people of Slovakia, will find it much more profitable from every perspective to work with neighbours and the EU to increase Europe's energy resource supply, including gas from America and other partners. Only this can reduce energy costs for the majority of families.

Slovakia's share of Ukraine's electricity imports is roughly 19%. The government of Ukraine is working with our EU neighbours to sustain the required volumes of electricity supply.

Slovakia is part of the single European energy market and Fico must respect common European rules. Any arbitrary decisions in Bratislava or Moscow's orders to Fico regarding electricity cannot cut Ukraine's power supply, but they can certainly cut current Slovak authorities' ties to the European community.

Our nation’s democratic system functioned last night and we have a new President-elect.  All Americans are bound, whether we like the outcome or not, to accept the results of our elections. We now have a special responsibility, as citizens of the greatest nation on earth, to do everything we can to support and defend our Constitution, preserve the rule of law, and ensure that our institutions hold over these coming four years. Citizens across this country, our courts, members of the press and those serving in our federal, state and local governments must now be the guardrails of democracy.

No matter what tomorrow brings, 🇺🇦Ukraine will carry on. 

Over the last three years of the war, let alone the last decade, this country has achieved things few would have ever believed.

It’s been fighting a full-scale war against one of the largest war machines in human history, an adversary that has no bounds in its dishonor, brutality, hatred, lies, arrogance, and unspeakable lust for absolute power. 

Ukraine is indeed fighting a fight many would never sustain and is getting far less respect than it truly deserves in the face of history. 

Heaven knows Ukraine has come through extraordinary things to, once again, win and defend its independence from the empire.

It has been seeing horrifying rains of Russian missiles trying to plunge its people into the dark cold in the dead of the winter.

It has seen fields of death of Bakhmut filled with fragments of dead bodies as far as the eye can see. It defeated the empire at its capital and made almighty Russia leave Kherson.

It attacked the Kremlin, devastated Russian air bases, and set multiple Russian oil depots on fire with simple weapons of its own making.

Without having a single major warship, it defeated Russia’s Black Sea fleet and sank its flagship, which had not happened to Russia since 1905.

Ukraine destroyed well over 3,000 Russian tanks and made Vladimir Putin go begging to China, Iran, and North Korea for weapons.

Ukraine mastered scores of advanced Western weapons many believed it could never use, and it opened a new chapter in modern warfare, having as little as it managed to get from the faint-hearted West.

Outnumbered and outgunned, it has occupied part of Russia’s home territory for three months, and it stands against the entire Axis of dictatorial regimes that are now threatening the entire free world. 

In just 2 weeks, there will be the 1,000th day of the war in which Kyiv was supposed to fall within 72 hours max.

Lastly, Ukraine managed to fulfill a World War I-scale mobilization, which is absurdly incompatible with the world of the 21st century. Through tears and pain, setbacks, and mistakes, Ukraine nonetheless carries on.

Ukraine has won its absolute right to life in freedom and pursuit of happiness on the scorched battlefields of the worst European war of aggression since Adolf Hitler. 

All this time, there has never been any shortage of dishonest dictatorial bootlickers, acid tongues, and shameless demagogues who were so quick to spit on Ukraine’s dramatic fight for survival. 

But there have been quite a lot of truthful friends, to whom we are sincerely grateful and with whom we will continue working.

So, no matter what tomorrow brings, there will be a new day and new hope.

Had we not been doing what was right against all odds, Ukraine would be dead and long gone now.

@bctallis An excellent letter. I totally agree with its content. The West needs to realise that you don’t beat a bully, like Putin by appeasing him. And some in Europe ( @Bundeskanzler ) need to understand how deterrence actually works!

I gave an interview to South Korea’s KBS, stressing North Korea’s official role in this war. It’s not just weapons or workers in Russian factories—North Korean soldiers are in Kursk, our occupied territories, preparing to fight Ukraine. This is a war of two countries against one.

Russia is also arranging for North Korean engineering units and civilian workers to operate in its military factories. I see a disturbing parallel here. When Russia invaded and occupied Crimea 10 years ago, there was little global reaction, aside from a few quiet statements. It’s the same today with North Korea’s involvement—Putin is testing the world’s reaction.
