When the finish line arrived early for him, he chose to help others begin their race.

Gajanan Thakare’s dream of becoming a professional sprinter was cut short by an injury. But instead of walking away from the sport he loved, he chose to give back. In 2022, Gajanan was selected under HCLFoundation’s Pitch for Progress project - designed to support community changemakers. With this support, he began coaching budding athletes in Nagpur, where infrastructure and resources were limited but passion ran deep.

He now trains over 100 children from marginalised communities, introducing them to structured athletic coaching and helping them realize their potential. His dedication bore fruit as many of his students began performing at district-level athletic competitions. His efforts were further recognized when he was awarded the Best Athletic Coach at the North Zone Championship held in Noida. He also serves on the Nagpur District Athletics Association’s Selection Committee for sub-junior and junior categories, shaping the next generation of athletes.

By nurturing mentors like Gajanan, HCLFoundation strengthens the grassroots movement for sports, enabling real impact in communities and shaping lives through opportunity, trust, and mentorship.
