@ChrisRMcGuire There’s a tradeoff here that gets skipped over. Restricting physical chips is one thing. Pushing foreign AI workloads off American cloud platforms altogether could also mean giving competing cloud stacks a reason to mature much faster.

@wallstengine The strangest part of this story is that Nvidia has engineered around the US restrictions, but Beijing may still block the sale. We’ve gone from America trying to reduce China’s dependence on Nvidia to Beijing actively trying to reduce it itself.
@LauraLoomer America’s edge isn’t something you preserve by putting it behind glass. The bigger risk is pushing China into building a completely separate AI ecosystem that eventually doesn’t need American chips, companies or technology at all. We’re already watching that happen.
