A productive and insightful day spent showcasing the market's agro-processing potential!
Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting representatives from GDARD, the City of Johannesburg (COJ) Agro-Processing Unit, and the Infrastructure Task Team for a comprehensive tour of our facilities. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the market's operational capabilities and agro-processing infrastructure, including the pack house, cold storage facilities, and Giants manufacturing operations available on-site.
The tour highlighted the critical role that these facilities play in supporting agricultural value chains, improving product handling and storage, reducing post-harvest losses, and creating opportunities for value addition within the agricultural sector. Stakeholders were given a firsthand look at the systems and structures that contribute to the efficient movement, processing, and preservation of fresh produce.
Beyond showcasing our existing infrastructure, the visit served as a platform for meaningful discussions on how government and industry can work together to strengthen South Africa's agro-processing sector. By leveraging available infrastructure and identifying areas for growth and investment, we can create greater opportunities for farmers, agro-processors, and emerging enterprises while driving food security, job creation, and economic development.
Together, we continue to explore innovative ways to unlock the full potential of agro-processing and build a more resilient and competitive agricultural economy for South Africa.

Today marked another impactful day of knowledge transfer at Joburg Market, reaffirming our commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and contributing meaningfully to the development of sustainable businesses within the agricultural and trading sectors.
In collaboration with the City of Johannesburg’s Youth Directorate, Joburg Market proudly welcomed the second group of students from the Delicious Festival Trader Academy for an insightful educational visit aimed at exposing entrepreneurs to the inner workings of South Africa’s largest fresh produce market.
Building on the success of the first group hosted last week, the second cohort arrived eager to learn and engage with the dynamic operations of the market. Last week’s visit proved highly successful, with participants expressing appreciation for the opportunity to interact directly with traders, understand supply chain processes, and gain a deeper understanding of how the market operates as a hub for economic activity, food security, and entrepreneurship. Many students shared that the experience opened their eyes to the vast opportunities available within the fresh produce and informal trading sectors.
Encouraged by the positive response from the first group, today’s session continued to create a meaningful platform for learning, networking, and inspiration. Students were taken through different sections of the market, where they gained firsthand exposure to trading operations, product handling, logistics, and customer engagement practices that contribute to the market’s continued success.
By investing in knowledge-sharing initiatives for young and emerging entrepreneurs, the market remains committed to nurturing future business leaders and creating pathways for sustainable economic growth.

This morning, Joburg Market supported the African Farming Production and Money Matters Workshop, hosted in collaboration with the Vaal University of Technology, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for agricultural development and knowledge transfer.
The workshop was designed as a practical learning platform, equipping farmers with essential skills to improve productivity, strengthen financial management, and build sustainable, profit-driven agricultural enterprises. Central to the discussions were market access strategies, value chain integration, and the financial principles required to run a viable farming business.
As part of its exhibition presence, Joburg Market played a critical educational role by providing expert guidance on how farmers can successfully access formal markets, meet compliance standards, and position their produce competitively. There’s nothing more powerful than a community that’s proud to be seen, and at Joburg Market, that starts with being present, listening, and engaging directly with our customers.
Today’s “Official Joburg Market Hashtag Drive” activation across the Fruit Hall and Vegetable Hall was more than just a content moment, it was a clear reflection of our customer centric approach. By being on the ground, engaging face-to-face with traders and buyers, we created space for real connection, authentic storytelling, and shared experiences.
From the moment the JM team stepped onto the floor with branded media frames and cameras, the energy shifted. Traders and buyers didn’t just participate they invited us in, called us over, and proudly stepped in front of the camera to represent their market. That level of enthusiasm speaks to the trust, pride, and sense of belonging that exists within our community.
This activation was designed to showcase our stakeholders while strengthening relationships and it delivered. Beyond the photos, it created meaningful interactions, moments of joy, and reinforced that at Joburg Market, our customers are at the heart of everything we do.
By actively engaging on the ground, we continue to build a market that listens, celebrates its people, and grows alongside them.
Don’t forget to share your moments using #LoveYourMarket #JMCares #JoburgMarket as we continue to amplify the voices and faces that make our market thrive.

Joburg Market was proud to be part of the Food For Mzansi Young Farmers Indaba from 8–9 April, an energising and insightful platform bringing together the future of South African agriculture.
Day 1 saw Mr Cedric Nephawe Divisional Manager: Programme Management representing the Market on a high level executive panel, contributing to critical conversations around partnerships, investment opportunities, and the decisions shaping the sector’s future.
Beyond the formal programme, one of the most valuable aspects of the Indaba was the opportunity to engage directly with farmers and stakeholders. Our team had meaningful conversations with attendees, sharing practical market insights, unpacking trends, and providing guidance on how producers can better position themselves within the fresh produce value chain. These engagements reaffirmed the importance of access to reliable market information in empowering emerging and established farmers alike.
