Many thanks!
Today, we welcomed representatives from Stockport and Salford Sea Cadets for a special behind the scenes tour of our Bridging and Boxer facilities.
The cadets met apprentices, former cadets and veterans who work across the site and learned about the many opportunities available to them as cadets.
Supporting and inspiring the next generation is key if we are to succeed in sustaining the highly skilled, qualified and experienced workforce that our industrial base depends on.
Steven Sharples, a Petty Officer in Stockport Sea Cadets said: “It was a super experience and a privilege to experience - great to see the cadets captivated by all that KNDS UK are doing here.”
We’re proud to support cadets, veterans and reservists alike as part of our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.

This is great news for the UK - RCH 155 is a KNDS product, and every Boxer made in the UK for the @BritishArmy starts its life at our purpose-built facility here in Stockport.
The contract award supports a network of UK suppliers, creates and sustains jobs and helps to reshore UK industrial capacity across the defence sector.

The story behind Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” is one of the most moving in Rock History.
The song (and the entire album) was composed primarily by Roger Waters and David Gilmour in 1975, two years after the massive success of The Dark Side of the Moon. At that time, the band was on top of the world, but Roger Waters felt a great void. That void had a name: Syd Barrett, the founder and original creative genius of Pink Floyd.
Syd had been expelled from the band in 1968 due to his severe mental health issues, exacerbated by excessive LSD use. By 1975, he had been completely disconnected from public life for years. Waters wrote the lyrics with him in mind: a mix of nostalgia, guilt, and sadness over the absence of his old friend.
During the album’s recording at Abbey Road Studios, Syd Barrett showed up unexpectedly one day. No one recognized him at first. He had gained a lot of weight, shaved his head and eyebrows, and was carrying a plastic bag of candy. He was acting strangely and asked if he could play on the record. The band members were stunned and deeply moved. That encounter left a deep impression on everyone, especially Waters and Gilmour.
“Wish You Were Here” is literally a wish that Syd were there, enjoying the success he had helped create but could no longer be a part of.
The album Wish You Were Here was released in September 1975 and became one of Pink Floyd’s best-selling and most beloved albums. The title track remains a universal anthem about absence, lost friendship, and melancholy.
Today it is considered one of the greatest rock ballads of all time and a lasting tribute to Syd Barrett, who died in 2006.
"Wish You Were Here" is an emotional tribute to Syd Barrett, the founder of Pink Floyd who left the band in 1968 due to severe mental problems caused mainly by the excessive use of LSD. Roger Waters wrote the lyrics thinking of his absence. https://t.co/zVS57i7ZXV
Did you know that we have our very own brass band? Established back in 1937 by workers at Fairey Engineering (now KNDS UK), they have practiced on the same site ever since and are one of the most successful and innovative bands still performing today.
You can catch them this Sunday for a fantastic evening of music at St George’s Church, Tyldesley.
Programme highlights include Dvořák’s Carnival Overture, Peter Graham’s Triquetra, Balkan Dance, Somewhere from West Side Story, and the finale from Year of the Dragon.
With special soloist features from: Iain Culross with Fairies of the Water, Ciaran Young performing Bert Appermont’s Green Hill, and Pete McDonough playing Lament from Stabat Mater by Karl Jenkins, it promises to be a sensational evening!
