@T_J_Lazer @tomthegrinch@LionsOfAfrica69@Barristerblog Court cases have never been about "truth", always what can be argued, shown or proven to a jury. Every case the CPA review and recommend for trial is based on that. Here the defence did a better job than the prosecution. That's life
@dexter_crisp @coopermanrazz@BarristerSecret@tomhunt1988 They admitted the actions against the statue but claimed the glorification of a mass murdering slaver caused a greater offense to more people. The jury agreed
@NeilMonton@LBC@mrjamesob@DavidOlusoga Pointless question, if that's your thing you crack on!
Nice that the mass murdering slaver has people like you on his side though, wouldn't want everyone against him...
@coopermanrazz @dexter_crisp @BarristerSecret@tomhunt1988 Their defence I believe was that the criminal damage was done to reduce a larger crime, and the jury agreed. Think of it like self defence but for statue removal
@TalibanGooner93 @HoohaAboutMaths@AgabrielFC@GaryLineker I think we broadly agree but I see a worse problem, but that's OK. Glad we could have a chat about it. Hope you have a good New Year's!
@TalibanGooner93 @HoohaAboutMaths@AgabrielFC@GaryLineker Football fans in know well are in South East London and are predominantly working class white men and lots of them are racist. I know this from years of going to football. It's why I don't go anymore
@TalibanGooner93 @HoohaAboutMaths@AgabrielFC@GaryLineker How do you know there's a majority of Black people perpetuating this. That's literally a racist attitude. I understand this is what the media says but these things are nonsense as a generalisation.
@TalibanGooner93 @HoohaAboutMaths@AgabrielFC@GaryLineker Recognition and acceptance is the start. Until we acknowledge how much racism is out there we can't change it. Problem is that racists won't accept they're racist, and racist institutions won't accept they are either
@TalibanGooner93 @HoohaAboutMaths@AgabrielFC@GaryLineker The point is all of this is institutional racism. It's stuff built in by history as well as people's prejudice. It needs changing but it's hard to do until people accept it exists
@TalibanGooner93 @HoohaAboutMaths@AgabrielFC@GaryLineker Racially motivated crimes aren't the only racism. Disproportionate stops on black people in stop and search. Longer sentences for the same crimes. Higher rates of deaths in custody. Underrepresentation in police numbers. It's not improved as much as you think
@TalibanGooner93 @HoohaAboutMaths@AgabrielFC@GaryLineker Can I ask what you base your assessment of how many people are racist on? Personally from my experience I would say it's less than half in the UK, yes, but not a tiny fraction, more like 1 in 3, historically it was more and that's why old institutions have racism built in
