🇺🇸 The Pentagon's plan to livestream the execution of the Fort Hood gunman is facing condemnation from the United Nations and Republican lawmakers.

Nidal Hasan, a former US Army psychiatrist who killed 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, is scheduled to be executed on December 3, potentially becoming the first person executed by a US military firing squad since 1945.

Pete Hegseth championed broadcasting the execution as a demonstration of the consequences of such attacks, while the UN calls the proposal “abhorrent” and warned it could violate prohibitions against cruel or degrading punishment.

JD Vance, meanwhile, has said he's unsure whether the livestream will proceed, while Trump reportedly does not oppose the idea but has yet to make a final decision.

If it does go ahead, many will likely view it as a means of distracting America from the Iran war, with a 'feel-good' elimination of a Jihadist.
