Okay, genuine and interested question. Just under 3/3 made progress over nearly a year. Wouldn’t you expect at least this level of progress after a year without any specific approach? What is the evidence that this approach has added any value? And what about the other 38%?

After completing the pre and post spelling progress check, @janeconsidine 62% of my class made progress and gains from the beginning of the year!

@ScottPughsley Okay, okay so we are competing here? Mother 91, I’m 67 with FOUR degrees, been a Head in two schools for over 23 years and my mum still asks me if I’ve cleaned the windscreen on the car so I can see the road better. And I love her all the more for it.

@KLMorgan_2 One addition to consider: give them a chance to try out senior leadership. More than a work shadow (which is also good). We created Associate Assistant Head roles lasting year. Often it led to promotion but some went back to their role with deepened understanding on both sides
