In a tragic and shocking incident, Jabari "Baba Skeng" Johnson, a 25-year-old Jamaican TikToker and son of renowned reggae artist Jah Mason, was gunned down during a live stream on TikTok on April 29, 2025. The execution-style killing took place near Queenie’s Snack Shop on Red Hills Road, St. Andrew, Jamaica, sending ripples of grief and outrage through the local and online communities. This marks the fourth high-profile murder of a Jamaican TikTok personality in recent months, raising alarm about the safety of social media influencers in the region.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. (some reports cite 8:30 p.m.) while Johnson, known online as ‘1babaskenng,’ was engaged in a TikTok "match," a live co-hosting feature. A masked gunman, described as a left-handed man dressed in black and wearing a hoodie, approached Johnson from behind and shot him in the head at close range. The attacker continued firing multiple shots into Johnson’s head and upper body as he collapsed, before fleeing on foot. A screen recording of the horrific event quickly went viral, amplifying the tragedy’s impact across social media platforms.
Jah Mason, celebrated for hits like "My Princess Gone," confirmed his son’s death but was too distraught to provide details, according to the Jamaica Observer. The St. Andrew North Police are investigating but have not established a motive or made any arrests. Deputy Superintendent Michael Campbell stated that Johnson was not previously known to law enforcement as a gang affiliate or violence producer, suggesting the attack may have been personal or opportunistic. The police are interviewing family and community members to uncover leads.
This killing follows a disturbing pattern of violence against Jamaican TikTokers. In September 2024, Keauno "Popsy" Watson was shot dead during a livestream in Allman Town, Kingston. In December 2024, Xavier "Niah Gang" Fogah was murdered during a livestream in St. Catherine, and Marlon "41 Busshead" Samuels was killed in Montego Bay shortly after ending a livestream. Criminologist Kanika Finzi-Smith has pointed to the risks of livestreaming, which can expose real-time locations or escalate online disputes into real-world violence, though no evidence directly ties Johnson’s death to such factors.
The Jamaican TikTok community and fans have expressed profound sorrow, with posts on X reflecting both grief and frustration. Users like
