In 2021, 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka made significant progress on plastic waste management with the launch of the 🔰 National Action Plan on Plastic Waste Management 2021–2030. The plan follows the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle, and proper disposal. It also embraces the #circulareconomy concept and the "polluter pays" principle. The @Min_of_Env_SL and the Central Environmental Authority lead the implementation of these policies, though not all measures are in place yet. 📢 Latest insights from our experts joining the negotiations in Paris: we remain hopeful that the committee will be able to decide on strong & meaningful core obligations that focus on the upstream of the plastics lifecycle and that have global obligations. We believe in the committee to give Chair Meza-Cuadra the mandate to produce a Zero-Draft to be further negotiated at INC-3 in Nairobi later this year.
