[Theory] Samura's Plan – No, He Is Not a Traitor
"I haven't held the Youtou Tobimune in 18 years. If I'm to wield this again, in Kunishige Rokuhira's name, I have to root out evil and protect the weak."
Ever since Samura "killed" Uruha and Chihiro, I have maintained that Samura was never a traitor. In reality, he took upon himself the full burden of ending the situation caused by the Seitei War. At the time, we did not have many details, but now we know that the only wielder who committed unforgivable sins was the Kensei. He was consumed by the Shinuchi while also consuming the Shinuchi himself, resulting in a genocide of over 200,000 people.
We still do not have confirmation that Uruha is alive, but we do know that Chihiro is. Samura temporarily killed him and broke his lifelong contract with Enten, which now makes even more sense. If Enten's contract was also tied to the Kensei, then when Samura killed him, Chihiro would have died as well.
During the battle against Uruha, it is important to remember that Uruha was not angry at Samura. He seemed to understand what was happening. Now, the question he asked about whether Samura was planning to carry the burden alone makes even more sense. Samura uses a regular katana in the duel to honor Uruha. For the final strike, he uses Tobimune so that Tobimune's ability brings him back to life. Like Chihiro, he died temporarily. The contract was undone. Hokazono didn't draw Samura changing the swords in the end for nothing.
I believe Samura's plan is as follows:
🔘 Breaking the contract of all wielders through temporary death
🔘 stablishing new contracts between the Youtous and the Hishaku members
🔘 Controlling the use of the Youtous through the Owl. If any Hishaku member uses a Youtou before Samura kills the Kensei, he will return and kill the wielder
🔘 Through these temporary deaths, Samura will fulfill his contract with Yura, forcing Yura to reveal the identities of all Hishaku members and Kunishige’s traitor
🔘 Samura plans to die in the battle against the Kensei. By using Tobimune to defeat the Kensei, he would also die. "Are you planning to carry this entire burden alone?" was what Uruha asked him
🔘 This way, he would prevent the prophecy from coming true, kill several Hishaku members, and leave the Youtous without wielders. With the sorcery of the lifelong contract broken, no one would be able to bond with the Youtous anymore.
Looking at Samura’s past, his encounter with Yura, and the new information about the Seitei War, this theory becomes even more plausible.
Obviously, I believe Yura will find a way to interfere with Samura’s plan, but that does not change the fact that this might be Samura’s true goal.
Samura is a hero. He fought for the right reasons in the Seitei War. He considers himself a sinner for agreeing to cover up what the Kensei did and feels responsible for the deaths of 200,000 people. But alongside the other four, he was responsible for stopping the Shinuchi. I believe witnessing so much death in the Seitei War was the main factor that led him to take his own sight. He is ready to give up his life once again to save everyone.
