Working with organizations that provide alternative resources and services to that of police response has been an honor and a blessing. #reimaginepublicsafety#hope#revealedpurpose
Multitasking and typing skills are great, but awareness of the social climate, the ability to recognize and check biases within themselves, and serving the public with empathy should be key job expectations for the 911 dispatcher. #reimaginepublicsafety#reimagine911
Knowing the pulse of the citizenry is a heavy burden.
I would have never survived listening to the cries for help in response to some of the worst offenses against humanity without the perspective of the cross. #theburdenof911#lensofthegospel
Think before you make the decision to insert the police in other people’s business. If you think they’re in danger then call, but let’s be thoughtful about what we perceive as danger. #reimaginepublicsafety#thinkbeforeyoucall911
The 9-1-1 operator is the gatekeeper, filter and disseminator of information between the public and the police. The role is integral and should be filled with service minded critical thinkers, not just folk who can talk and type at the same time. #reimaginepublicsafety
God, move as only you can in the lives of your people and in the lives of those who do not yet know you. You know every need. Heal, deliver and restore. #prayerforthepublic
Karens exist and are legion. The influence they have is real and often supported by police dispatch policy. I’m not telling you something I heard on TV. I’m telling what I know through a lived occupational experience working 9-1-1. #reimaginepublicsafety
The mindset of a 911 dispatcher should be help, empathy, awareness and grace. It can change the trajectory of the outcome of law enforcement’s engagement with the public. There’s not enough focus on or respect for the 911 dispatcher. That needs to change. #reimaginepublicsafety
It is difficult to witness all of the atrocities occurring in our homes, communities and world. Working 9-1-1 offered a front row seat to it all. All those years I found hope in the resurrected Christ who conquered death hell and the grave. You can too. Happy Sunday
The police are not always the best or appropriate resource. It is why I am so passionate about working with organizations that offer alternative services to address incidents of offense and harm. We have to start somewhere. #reimaginepublicsafety
It was a struggle everyday to work for the police. Now on the other side of 29 years, I believe I was called to it somehow - anticipating and praying about the consequences of sending armed folk into people’s homes and situations and lives.
God extends grace to us. We should extend grace to others. If it is not in your nature to offer courteous goodwill, I challenge you to develop the habit. There would be far less incidents of harm. #reimaginepublicsafety#grace#goodwill
Be bold enough to push back against the systems that have shaped what you’ve always blindly accepted. When you begin to reimagine the society you want to live in as opposed to the one you’ve accepted, things will change. #reimaginepublicsafety
Peaceful community is attainable. God gives us the formula for healing the land, but as in most things we ignore or straight up rebuke His voice and make choices informed by our own deceitful heart. Let’s strive to do better. #reimaginepublicsafety#community#publicsafety
An argument alone does not warrant a tactically trained, armed individual to respond and intervene. Be thoughtful regarding the instances for which you believe you should call 9-1-1. #thinkbeforeyoudial911#reimaginepublicsafety
A verbal argument is not an emergency. Yes, even if there is yelling involved. Sometimes people have issues they need to work out, and dealing with those issues via civilized discourse is not what everyone is out here choosing.
Working 9-1-1 provided a visceral view of a fallen humanity. Although the exception, I did see goodness in those who called out of genuine concern and care for others. I was thankful to God for providing me glimpses of hope in those callers. #reimaginepublicsafety#hope
