As I watched the video and listened to the 6-year-old who shot his teacher spew every cuss word imaginable, I thought about the young mother I spoke to the other day. She has a 2 little boys and was worried they’d pick up words like “stupid” and “idiot” from friends and cartoons.
Imagine if her children wound up in a classroom with a child like the one in the video. It happens every day. Very young children from happy, healthy homes, where respect for authority and thoughtful words are the norm, are introduced to the chaos and fear that is bred in homes where dysfunction reigns.
All children deserve an education, but we need to have a serious conversation about our responsibility to protect the innocent, well-behaved children from classroom trauma like this rather than simply reacting to it by increasing “trauma-informed instruction”.
@Muaddibisme@SilverHammers@LibertarianLars The eight Ivy League schools took in more than $6 billion in federal funding in fiscal year 2023, according to a NewsNation analysis. Most of it is research grants from agencies like NIH, NSF, DOE, and the Pentagon. Yale alone received about $900 million in fiscal 2024.
