K-12 district science specialist collaborating with teachers & administrators on science learning for all. Former @NSTA District 13 Director & @TXScienceSTAT VP
We were thrilled to have you train us today, @vburnett48! I'm so thankful for our amazing science team in Bastrop ISD. Love our teachers! #ThankfulTuesday#BringItBISD
@teainfo This link is incorrect on your website. It does not show the 2018-2019 School Year Statewide Summary Reports, rather it shows FAll 2019 EOC STAAR statewide results. https://t.co/KaMjFl9MwM
@BMSCampus@CCMS_Eagles@BastropISD@STEMscopes In a couple of pictures, they are practicing the Engage Activity - modeling the life cycle of stars in groups using kinesthetic learning! This is going to be a high interest unit for kids.
I love seeing kids being interactive and engaged with the same type of screens we just got in Bastrop ISD! This is positioned at kid height - something to think about.
This is what was happening before A Framework for K-12 Science Education and NGSS - hands-on of any kind passing as a science curriuclum that builds to scienctific literacy.
@JMNorrisISP Perhaps one, that items that can be a struggle to get 6-12 to do, are natural and exciting for K-5, like asking questions and coming up with things to investigate. Even constructing explanations. And that hands-on of any kind is a good step, although not a final step.
Thank you! It definitely caught me by surprise, but it's not totally unexpected. We are going to need communication around how long we will be using our current TEKS and resources.
I am on Team Move It! at the Bastrop ISD service center where we are logging our steps every month. We hit 2 million steps in August! As you can see, I won a case of water, in our monthly random prize drawing! We are building fitness and comraderie!! #OntheMove
@Grantham_AISD students get a real world application to Newton’s laws in their 8th grade Science classes today! Innovative teaching and lessons students remember! Turn & Talk + high level questions + engaging activity= student learning @drgoffney@AldineISD#PanthersMakeItMatter
@BMSCampus science PLCs this morning where the team leaders are leading the work, focusing on TEKS, district curricululum and Three Part Objectives! Bastrop ISD science is #onthemove!
It appears the only way students can be put in a true practice for online STAAR is to take the interim assessments which have been expanded to include science and social studies. Is this what everyone else is seeing/thinking?
We talked about this today again in a meeting. What we know is that the assessments are will not be released except to where they are now (parent portal) & that the online testing platform has been updated and the 2019 STAAR tests that normally would be there are not there now.
Thank you @MarthaScience for sharing how you found out today that TEA is not going to release the 2019 STAAR tests on their online platform which means we won't be able to use them for our Mock STAARs.
It's possible that we will see them in the platform at some time in the future - if districts push back? - but we are proceeding with the understanding we can't use that platform to administer the 2019 STAARs as our Mocks with all of the language accommodations.
