@routesdurban@kingshakaint@DubeTradePort utilisation of their existing fleet of A320 by sending the plane that ends the day in Durban on to Reunion on some days and Mauritius on others. Good connections to JNB and CPT too.
@routesdurban@kingshakaint@DubeTradePort https://t.co/GpE5IsQuiH suggests they’re aiming to commence Mauritius in June.
Current SA-Reunion link is 2x per week JNB-RUN. Would be a lot of value in Lift doing DUR-ZSE on 2 or more other days of the week. Imagine like FlySafair ZNZ will be overnight to increase…
@routesdurban Nice article.
RSA is unfortunately geographically poorly placed to host a hub of any nature.
Durban was considered as SA hub back in the day as Joburg is at altitude which means planes must carry and burn more fuel to takeoff, resulting in range limitations to this day.

@urbanjodi I think everyone was briefed beforehand to not directly challenge Trump/try find middle-ground/move the framing to helping South Africa rather than punishing South Africa.
In which case they probably fulfilled their role? I thought it was an interesting strategy.
@nytimes showing us how it’s done: “Trump’s Meeting With Ramaphosa Turns Contentious Over False Genocide Claims”
@BBCWorld impartiality does not void your responsibility to identify falsehoods.
BBC News not explaining that white genocide is literal fake news on a regular basis is MISLEADING viewers.
It’s nonsensical and fake and the claims by Trump & co deserve to be treated with contempt.

@routesdurban Agreed.
A good thing indeed, but deliveries only expected from 2028 so won’t have an impact yet. Should be a period of time where some will arrive before they start retiring 777s which have new cabins.
@routesdurban Other reason to suspect 2026 is the continued delays to 779 and 78X deliveries + impending 388 refit again leave BA short on wide-bodies.
78X original order should be mostly complete by winter 2026 but final aircraft due 2027.
@routesdurban They immediately begin their 787-9 refit, so may have 788s filling in on these routes over the next year or so. If I had to guess, we’ll only see Durban in October 2026.
But fingers crossed - if an announcement comes for this year it would be this month or next.
