BREAKING: Somalia has ordered the closure of Ethiopia’s Consulates in Hargeisa (Somaliland) and Garowe (Puntland) citing Ethiopia’s “interference” in internal affairs of Somalia.

Ethiopia has one week to close the two consulates; Ethiopian diplomats and workers at these two consulates have one week to leave the country.

If Ethiopian diplomats and workers at these two consulates don’t leave within one week Somalia threatens to take further actions.

Somalia’s cabinet has also ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform Ethiopia’s Ambassador Muktar Mohamed aware to return to his country for consultations.

The relations between the two countries hit rock bottom after Ethiopia signed a controversial MoU with Somaliland on Jan 1, 2024, a deal Somalia said violated its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

And on yesterday, State Minister of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with a delegation from Somalia’s Puntland region, apparently without coordinating with the Federal Government of Somalia.
