Once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive.

You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain.

When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in.

—Haruki Murakami

[U.S. Department of the Interior @Interior]

Happy Native American Heritage Month! Interior is proud to celebrate the traditions, languages and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and Island communities and ensure their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation.

[IllumiNative @IllumiNative]

As we kick off #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, let’s honor the enduring presence & resilience of Native peoples throughout history. Despite centuries of colonization, forced assimilation & systemic oppression, our communities continue to thrive & build power for future generations

The person you will be in 5 years depends on:

• the food you eat

• books or articles you read
• how much more you write
• money you save and invest
• who you work with
• friends you spend time with
• new skills you develop
• connections you make and keep
• promises you make and keep

• new habits you develop
• quitting the stuff that holds you back

I struggled at school. I struggled at work.

I struggle with writing. I struggle with speaking publicly.

I struggle with small talk. I am intimated by really smart people.

Nothing has been easy for me. Yet, I welcome intentional struggles.

Why, you may ask. That’s how I grow.

Today, I have the solemn responsibility to be the first president to formally apologize to Native peoples – Native American, Native Hawaiian, and Native Alaskan – for what happened during the Indian Boarding School era.

It's long overdue.

[Secretary Deb Haaland @SecDebHaaland]

It was the honor of my lifetime to travel with @POTUS to celebrate his first visit to Indian Country at the Gila River Indian Community today.

[IllumiNative @IllumiNative]

President Biden's formal apology is a historic first step towards justice and healing for Native peoples. The federal government has never apologized for what happened to Native children and acknowledged the impact boarding schools continue to have in our communities.

[Secretary Deb Haaland @SecDebHaaland]

Federal Indian boarding schools have impacted every Indigenous person I know. These were places where children - including my grandparents - were traumatized. I'm so grateful to @POTUS for acknowledging this terrible era of our nation's past. https://t.co/E4uFBcN6aR

[President Biden Archived @POTUS46Archive]

The Federal Indian Boarding School Era is one of the darkest chapters of American history. The trauma experienced in those institutions haunts our conscience to this very day.

Today, I'm in Arizona to issue a long overdue presidential apology for this era – and speak to how my Administration has worked to invest in Indian Country and our relationships with Tribal Nations, advance Tribal sovereignty and self-determination, respect Native cultures, and protect Indigenous sacred sites.

On my watch, we'll remain committed to ushering in a new era between our government and nation-to-nation relationships – one that is grounded in dignity and respect.

We must remember our full history, even when it's painful. That's what great nations do. And we are a great nation.

The largest dam removal project in US history is complete! A major victory for Native communities who fought tirelessly for decades. Let's work towards a future where Indigenous communities are respected & empowered to protect their lands, waters, & ways of life. #UnDamTheKlamath

[Barack Obama @BarackObama]

Happy birthday to my friend @KamalaHarris! She has spent her life fighting on behalf of people who need a voice and a chance—now it’s our turn to help elect her as our next president. Make sure you're ready to vote at https://t.co/NKXRGNgbZX.

I’ve been a fan of @StevieWonder for as long as I can remember. That’s why I’m proud to share The Wonder of Stevie podcast from @HGMedia and @Questlove, which explores the five-year period starting from 1972 where Stevie released some of the most groundbreaking albums that transformed music.

I hope you'll take some time to listen on Audible or wherever you get your podcasts.
