One of the best lessons imparted to me in medical school is that a commitment to medicine is a commitment to lifelong learning. There are no more tests or exams; just a promise and duty to be the best for your patients.

It’s Spine Health Awareness Month! Shoutout to our #UCSDNeuroSurg spine surgeons who work tirelessly to advance spine research and provide the best care for their patients.
Dr. Martin Pham (@martinphammd) will be attending #2024CNS and will present on minimally invasive adult spinal deformity correction leveraging advanced lateral techniques and technologies! @CNS_Update@UCSDMedSchool
And laminectomies, facetectomies, and pedicle subtraction — all progressive anatomy! I’m glad it helps illustrate hands-on what they’re seeing in the OR, and certainly honored to have small part in the early education of these superstars. 🌟
Congratulations to our sub-I's on a successful spine lab!
Our #UCSDNeuroSurg sub-I's are mentored from the moment they arrive, get exposure to our world-class facilities and gain the ability to place pedicle screws in a cadaver, T8 to L4, by themselves.
Another successful sub-I spine cadaver lab — freehand pedicle screw placement, laminectomies, facetectomies, and even got to pedicle subtraction. This applicant season is looking bright!

That’s a wrap on the second 2024 #UCSDNeuroSurg sub-I rotation! Sub-I's presented on topics including CT radiomics, brainstem metastases, treatment of hypertonia, scaffolding proteins in glioblastoma and spent a day in our spine lab (@CFS_UCSD) with the guidance of @MartinPhamMD
Happy Match Day! We are thrilled to welcome Drs. Kathryn Becker (@kn_becker) and Nikita Choudhary to the #UCSDNeuroSurg family! We look forward to their continued success @UCSanDiego and future contributions to our specialty. #Match2024
I have enthusiasm for tech that can help surgeons be even better. PSRs rely on predictive algorithms to achieve alignment goals and reduce postop failures. While I use them with @OsorioSpine@UCSDNeuroSurg, it is only one of many strategies that can ultimately influence outcomes.
Current literature speaks to the ability of patient specific (pre-bent) rods to restore optimal sagittal balance in ASD, thereby achieving preoperative planned alignment goals while reducing operative time. Excellent work from @martinphammd spine lab.

Congratulations to Drs. Joseph Osorio (@OsorioSpine) and Martin Pham (@MartinPhamMD) who presented their latest work on personalized approaches for complex #spine conditions at the International Spinal Deformity Symposium earlier this month. #ISDS2023#Deformity#Neurosurgery
“The spine lab with Dr. Pham was probably one of the absolute highlights of this rotation. Dr. Pham is an incredible teacher.”
2023 #subI Manjari Daniel shares more about her experiences rotating with us over the summer.

Appreciate the @TheJNS highlight! There certainly was a learning curve as early adopters of single-position lateral 2019-2022; glad to say our current protocols now continue to show equivalent accuracy compared to prone for those interested in SPS robotics.

@drvijay_agarwal I appreciate the kind words from a friend and colleague so accomplished already as well! No one could have known then how important that picture was going to be 😂. Our cohort didn’t do too bad 🌟
Thank you again for the generous visiting grand rounds invite to talk on this topic (for an hour!) about how @UCSDNeuroSurg approaches some of these complex conditions minimally invasively. Glad to see old friends and connect with new ones!
Incredibly proud and excited to see @DrAlexKhalessi lead the Congress — if it is anything like how he has led and advanced the shared goals of our department @UCSDNeuroSurg, I have no doubt this will be one of @CNS_Update’s best years ever 🌟
Congratulations to our chair @DrAlexKhalessi on becoming president of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (@CNS_update)! We look forward to his leadership of the world’s leading academic society for #neurosurgeons.
