Le 21 avril, 18 États membres de l’Union européenne ont voté un mauvais texte de compromis sur les nouveaux OGM (NGT). Dont la France.

Il faut le dire clairement : la France aurait pu faire basculer ce vote. Elle a choisi de ne pas le faire.

Ce texte, c’est une forme de privatisation du vivant. Les NGT permettent de reproduire ce que la nature fait déjà. Demain, ces caractéristiques pourraient être brevetées comme des inventions industrielles.

On est en train d’instaurer un véritable péage sur la ressource génétique. Les agriculteurs devront payer plus cher qu’aujourd’hui leurs semences, et les petits et moyens semenciers seront soumis à l’arbitraire des grands détenteurs de brevets, qui auront sur eux un pouvoir considérable.

Je souhaite défendre, lors de la plénière, ces principes indispensables : garantir un accès équitable aux ressources génétiques via des plateformes certifiées par la Commission européenne et auxquelles devront participer obligatoirement les producteurs de NGT ; interdire les brevets sur ce que la nature produit déjà ; et protéger les agriculteurs contre tout risque de poursuites injustifiées.
