There is a way to stop disease outbreaks in industrial livestock production, and that's to end industrial livestock production. Operators need support to fully transition to plant-based farming. It's better for them, better for us, better for animals. https://t.co/jKHpacUApq /🧵
🧵 @USDA just announced $1 billion to combat bird flu and reduce egg prices. Almost half of that is allocated to paying operators to kill potentially infected animals. Many operators will likely use the horrific method known as 'ventilation shutdown.' https://t.co/WTX5rIKzFC

In response to this video, someone asked, "I'm curious what you want them to do, that they're not already doing? Producers don't want their animals to die either. It's a horrible disease."
My response to that is:
I hope they will join us in supporting policies that assist producers in transitioning away from animal-based protein production. It’s time to scale down this outdated system, which poses serious risks to public health, animal welfare, and global food security. We encourage businesses to adopt animal-free ingredients and technologies. For example, Bored Cow milk—produced through precision fermentation without using cows—offers a sustainable, ethical alternative and should be widely available as a replacement for conventional cow’s milk.

A shortcut for detecting if something is written with AI is they all use this symbol "—" throughout the writing. It's relatively rare when a human uses it, maybe once or twice, if that. But AI chats love using it. No clue why.
Can't bring myself to join in on the Dem or vegan egg price schadenfreude because of this.
When you see high prices, the reason is that 1 in 12 hens in the US has recently been gassed, asphyxiated by foam, or left in a sealed barn with the fans shut off to slowly cook to death

Pigs are probably the most cognitively & emotionally intelligent non-apes: they pass the mirror test, use tools, have theory of mind, comfort each other when stressed, etc.
When scientists say "ethics", they literally mean nothing but "what society will let us get away with"
We are happy to announce the launch of Season 7 of The Animal Turn Podcast focused on "Animals and Multispecies Health" and sponsored by Animals in Philosophy, Politics, Law and Ethics (APPLE) and the Remaking One Health (ROH) Indies Project.
