Only academy products part of the preseason roster not already contracted to the first team are Luka Sunjic (‘08) and Kieran Smith (‘08).
Sunjic is a 6/8 contracted to NYCFC 2. Smith is an unsigned academy LB.
American-Croatian talent Luka Sunjić (17) has signed his first professional contract with MLS side New York City FC.
He already stands out as one of the youngest players appearing for NYCFC II in MLS NEXT Pro.
🤍👋🏻 Luka Modrić’s letter to Real Madrid fans.
“Dear Madrid fans,
Time has come. The moment I never wanted to come, but that's football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end... On Saturday I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabéu.
I arrived in 2012 with the desire to wear the shirt of the best team in the world and with the ambition to do big things, but I couldn't imagine what came next.
Playing at Real Madrid changed my life as a soccer player and as a person.
I feel proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history.
I want to thank the club from the bottom of my heart, especially the president Florentino Perez, my teammates, coaches and all the people who have helped me during all this time.
Throughout these years I've experienced incredible moments, comebacks that seemed impossible, finals, celebrations and magical nights at the Bernabéu... We won everything and I was very happy. Very very happy.
But beyond the titles and victories, I carry in my heart the affection of all Madrid fans. I really don't know how to explain the special connection I have with you and how supported, respected and loved I have felt and feel. I will never forget each ovation and all the gestures of affection you have shown me.
Leaving with a full heart. Filled with pride, gratitude and unforgettable memories. And even though, after the Club World Cup, I'm no longer going to wear this shirt on the field, I'll always be a Madrid fan.
Hala Madrid y nada más!”.
Here's the second goal for Seymour Reid ('08). Right place at the right time, but that's what you want from a striker.
Nice turn on the play from Luka Sunjic ('08) to create the goal.
plays as a 6 for NYCFC U17 and has been one of their standout players since joining in January. Possesses excellent football IQ, consistently tracks back, and is rarely caught out of position. His passing ability is also class.
Dinamo or Hajduk need to sign him.

🇺🇸🇭🇷 Luka Sunjic (16) currently plays for NYCFC U17. Although still very young, he's already attracting teams across Europe like Croatia, England, Spain, and Germany.
He does hold a Croatian passport so the move overseas will come very soon.
(1/2) highlights below.
New player whose game I like a lot: Luka Sunjic ('08).
He's a #6 that joined NYCFC in January. I had him recommended to me when he joined. Someone told me he was a player I should know about. Compared to a Modric/Pirlo style player.
Recommendations are hit or miss. Some are right on, and some are off. This one was good. He's similar to U-17 players like Dylan Judelson/Nate Worth. Doesn't have flashy athleticism, but he's fine in that category, very good defensively with positioning, reads, timing, strength, he's a smart player in possession too, and accurate passer.
He has a Croatian passport. Was told he won't be in the USA for long because the Euro scouts are already very interested in him. NYCFC has acted fast to give out first team deals recently to academy players. They might need to do so again if they want to keep him.
Here are some clips of what he can do.
