Having dismissed calls for an early General Election before the scheduled election in May 2029, the PM can begin concentrating on announcing those schemes he appreciates fall well short of expectations. One such failure is the newly arrived Mega Dinghy’s and the PM has been quick to wash his hands of ever truly stopping them, siting a soar throat after ranting at his ministers.

Liar, but of course there is a simple solution and yes even before the day is over, send in the Royal Navy. You will not be facing the prospect of undocumented and unverifiable combatant aged young men from assuming that they were somebody else streaming across the channel. @Ayaan Denmark is mentioned a lot because it changed its whole approach to immigration.

The biggest difference is political consensus. For years both left and right-wing parties agreed that immigration had to be tightly controlled and that the asylum system needed to deter arrivals, not attract them. Once that consensus formed, policy became consistent and long-term instead of swinging with each election.

They made asylum temporary by default. Protection is granted on the basis that it can end when conditions improve. That means regular reassessments and a clear expectation that people return home when it is safe. The message is simple: protection is not automatic settlement.

They tightened family reunification rules and welfare access. Benefits for new arrivals were cut below standard welfare levels, and access to permanent residency and citizenship became much harder. Language, work and integration requirements were strengthened. The signal is that long-term residence must be earned.

They moved processing and accommodation away from major cities and focused heavily on rapid decisions and returns. Failed applicants are pushed towards departure quickly, and return agreements with origin countries are treated as a diplomatic priority rather than an afterthought.

They also talk about integration in blunt, practical terms. Expectations are clear: learn the language, work, respect Danish law and norms. The state is explicit about the need for social cohesion and the risks of parallel communities.

The lesson is not that Denmark found a magic policy. It's that they decided the system should deter illegal migration, make protection temporary, and enforce decisions quickly and then aligned law, welfare and administration around that goal.

Accountability used to be taken seriously but for some inexplicable reason, falling on one’s sword has lost its appeal. We ought to reintroduce treason offences so that those officials found wanting can be replaced. Yes from the Top down and not as we have become used to from the bottom up.
