The problem with the Govt is that, even though they know EXACTLY what a catastrophe Brexit is for the UK, they won't start the process of re-joining the SM and Customs Union.
It is as if they WANT huge unemployment, bankruptcies, and destruction of welfare, food standards?
Why?
@Otto_English Food classism is one of my least favourite tropes in UK discourse. It just reinforces the idea that enjoying food & cooking are only for a few. Most of the world's most famous dishes are the food of the poor.
So Trump goes today. A horrible and dangerous period of leadership ends. He normalised mistruth and divided a nation. Whilst they aren’t as bad as the Trump administration the current UK government have similar traits. This type of politics must end. Let’s hope today is the start
There's a legend building among the non-deadend Trumpers, that Trump had a decent record before some arbitrary date: before the election, before the pandemic. It needs to be stressed that Trump was a crook, charlatan, bigot, thug, and incompetent from the start to the end.
@flip_digital @shaunwkeaveny *Because the Normans lived so long ago, we’ve probably all got some Norman ancestors, but most of us don’t have the titles, land or money, hence “main-line”. (2)
@flip_digital @shaunwkeaveny I’ve been saying this for ages – the English ruling class is largely made up of the main-line* descendants of those who came over at and after Hastings. Gerrard Winstanley talked about the “Norman yoke” at the end of 1649…nothing’s changed. (1)
Was on my bike few days ago on the path at the Clyde. Fish popped it's head out of the water and in perfect French asked "excusez-moi monsieur, dites-moi que je suis en Ecosse?.. knowing a wee bit french I replied.. Oui, vous l'ètes! à Glasgow!..never seen a fish so happy 🏴❤🐟
