A nun was assaulted in occupied East Jerusalem earlier this week amid growing concern over Israeli attacks against Christians.

The 48-year-old, a researcher at Jerusalem’s French School of Biblical and Archaeological Research, was attacked on Tuesday in front of the Cenacle, a site on Mount Zion regarded as holy by both Christians and Jews.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which is affiliated with the nun’s research centre, said the attack was “not an isolated incident, but part of a troubling pattern of rising hostility toward the Christian community and its symbols”.

⛵️Israeli forces intercepted at least 22 vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) in international waters near Crete on Wednesday, detaining around 175 activists, journalists, and humanitarian workers from 55 countries. Organizers said Israeli forces also damaged the engines of several boats, leaving activists stranded as a storm approaches.

Israel’s Foreign Affairs Minister announced that those detained will be transferred to Greece and released. The Global Sumud Flotilla’s remaining 31 vessels have “reached safe waters and are currently recalibrating, fully prepared to continue the journey to break the illegal siege of Gaza,” GSF said.

⭕️ BREAKING: Two brothers, both under 10, killed just weeks apart — each while gathering firewood in Gaza

9-year-old Adel al-Najjar was shot and killed by Israeli forces Tuesday while collecting firewood in Khan Younis, according to Nasser Hospital via the Associated Press. He was about 400 meters (1,312 feet) from the “Yellow Line” separating Israeli-controlled areas from the rest of Gaza. His younger brother had reportedly been killed under similar circumstances in the same area just a month earlier.

At least 226 children and 179 women have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since the start of the so-called ceasefire, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

⛵️ Over 50 vessels depart Italy bound for Gaza in largest civilian maritime mobilization yet

The Global Sumud Flotilla departed from Augusta, Sicily with over 50 vessels setting course toward the eastern Mediterranean in what the organization describes as the largest coordinated civilian maritime mobilization of the mission to date.

Among those on board is Dr Margaret Connolly, a GP from Sligo and sister of Irish President Catherine Connolly, who set sail from Sicily on Sunday. “We are prepared to be arrested,” she told the Irish Independent.

The fleet is accompanied by Greenpeace’s Arctic Sunrise and the rescue vessel Open Arms. The flotilla’s stated objectives are to challenge Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza, advance the opening of a permanent humanitarian corridor, and increase international pressure on governments and corporations it says are complicit in enforcing the blockade.

🏥 An emergency physician with Doctors Without Borders working in Lebanon is warning that the toll of Israel’s war extends far beyond the immediate death count.

Dr. Thienminh Dinh, speaking to Pod Save the World, described treating a young woman whose both legs were blown off while walking with a friend.

She survived the initial injuries — but when Dr. Dinh visited her days later in the ICU, her kidneys were failing from the extent of the muscle destruction.

She also described a migrant woman injured in one of the very first strikes who remains hospitalized months later — paralyzed after bleeding into her brain stem and spine, her home destroyed, the people who would have cared for her killed in the same strike.

Beyond the acute trauma cases, Dr. Dinh described a healthcare system in total collapse. Patients who couldn’t reach hospitals during the war, whose doctors were displaced, or whose conditions went undetected as clinics shut down to redirect all resources to emergency care.

She recounted diagnosing a pregnant woman whose baby had died in utero — a complication that, in a functioning system, would have been caught and treated in time.

“Beyond the acute injuries,” Dr. Dinh said, “we’re looking at a generation left with lifelong disabilities.”
