Sterile Water being recalled due to Fibers, wood, plastic, rust and broken seals... 2 years after distributed. Medical industrial complex strikes again!
Recent hospital-fluid recalls in the U.S. and Canada have involved both leaking containers and foreign particles inside sealed bags. B. Braun pulled one lot of Excel Lactated Ringer’s Injection 1000 mL (J4H077), shipped nationwide and to Canada in late 2024, after cellulose cotton fiber was found in the solution, along with individual particles of cellulose wood fiber and polystyrene. The company later recalled U.S. lots of 0.9% sodium chloride that also turned up iron oxide plus cellulose or polystyrene. On the sterile-water side, B. Braun recalled 3,000 mL Sterile Water for Injection bags in 2025 and April 2026 over ports that could leak after the foil was removed, and Baxter recalled about 125,000 bottles of Sterile Water for Irrigation (lot G171359) after plastic fragments from the bottle rim floated in the liquid. Medline had similar leaking sterile-water and saline bottles. The common thread is product that is supposed to be sterile and particle-free showing up with fibers, wood, plastic, rust, or a broken seal.
