The state will withhold funding from schools & libraries that attempt to ban books. It’s the first state in the nation to enact such a law. https://t.co/i0VNvEDXOr
This year has seen a sharp increase in school conflict mandates for me .... SGBs, educators, learners, parents, unions and even members of the specific communities, often involved in harmful, costly conflicts for which they are ill-equipped. This makes the tough job of running a school even more challenging
@sage_stage Sounds like your school is …. Yeah. Have you tried talking to the class about it? How invested are they in their learning? You might be able to shame that one kid into being a team player (weaponised shame, great, I know).
@heymrsbond I had students read articles about Gaza from different sides and analyse word choice, with specific reference to descriptions of Palestinians. It aligns with their AP Seminar work and is helping them write about perspectives.
The United States was one of only six countries in the 192-member United Nations to vote against a resolution yesterday calling for an end to illegal Israeli colonization of territories seized by military force in contravention of international law.

It's such a powerful statement for these Jewish organizations to be demonstrating on Shabbat. "We will not rest" in this context means "the situation is so dire it requires breaking one of our most holy commandments." ❤️
🧵 Are you angry, exhausted, confused or despondent about your online experience with the Israel/ Hamas conflict these past two weeks? Against the backdrop of the horrors of that war so ubiquitous on our screens, social media further exposes us to intense polarization and viewpoints that may seem irrational, wrong, inhumane and malicious to us. How can people be so wrong, so wilfully ignorant in the face of such manifest evil, we ask ourselves. Crucial to the understanding of and effective engagement with these online conflicts is a modern understanding of the concept of the identity or value conflict. It is an immensely complex conflict topic, but I think that a short thread on some of the dynamics involved may help us make some sense of what we are experiencing. We find identity conflicts everywhere, from the Ukraine war to the Trump arguments, from the South African political battles to our workplace conflicts, but the current Israeli/ Hamas conflict serves as a particularly illustrative lesson 🧵
