This present-day model of Black Capitalism does highlight capitalism’s inherently exploitative nature. The idea of Black Capitalism lies in misconceptions about small businesses and the working class position of most Black people. #COMferenceForensics

This was accomplished by co-opting Black power rhetoric from Black activists like Malcolm X and using it to create a segregated economy. That way, if Black people struggled after creating businesses, stereotypes of Black people being lazy were justified. #COMferenceForensics

Activists such as Angela Davis and Fred Hampton understood that in order to achieve Black liberation, exploitation needs to be removed from the picture. Systems that are built to sustain and reinforce white supremacy are useless to Black people’s liberation. #COMferenceForensics

When Richard Nixon coined Black Capitalism as the solution it was done so to remove the US Government’s responsibility in creating Black socio-economic uplift. That way, he could acquire the votes from southern states and oppose reforms by Black activists. #COMferenceForensics

Animals are still being sent to space, but thanks to today’s updated technology the likelihood of survival is now much greater. Each animal being sent to the stars takes a little bit of Laika with them, and on their return, she comes home. #COMferenceForensics

Laika not only helped the Soviet Union in their race to space, she sparked a conversation about animal welfare and rights. Her journey and subsequent death in the stars has inspired action in all aspects of life, from animal activism to visual art. #COMferenceForensics

Laika was NOT the only dog sent to space. Others included Belka and Strelka, who were the first dogs to return from space alive. Strelka even had puppies after returning, one of which was gifted to John F. Kennedy from Nikita Khrushchev. #COMferenceForensics

A memorial dedicated to Laika, was created April 11th, 2008. It’s located outside the Russian Cosmonaut training facility where she was trained in Star City, Russia. #COMferenceForensics
