🌡️ TEMPERATURES COULD CLIMB TO 34C ON THURSDAY WITH A NEW HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD SET 🌡️
Thursday is projected to be the warmest day of 2026, and possibly the hottest ever recorded in Ireland, surpassing the current record of 33.3°C set in Kilkenny back in 1887.
The highest temperatures are expected in the west, midlands, and north, with Northern Ireland also potentially setting a new temperature record. Latest high-resolution models suggest we could see temperatures reaching 34°C, so I will be keeping an eye on the weather stations as the day progresses.
There's still a chance for thunderstorms, which could occur almost anywhere if the atmospheric conditions allow for it. The northwest appears to be a hotspot, especially in areas like Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, and Mayo, which may experience long-duration severe thunderstorms with frequent lightning.
For those wondering about the timing, storms could develop anytime from tomorrow afternoon into Friday morning. I think some storms will start forming in the northwest tomorrow evening and slowly move northward as they intensify.

TEMPERATURES SET TO RISE AS HIGH AS 33°C ACROSS DONEGAL ON THURSDAY
Very hot continental air is currently over Ireland at present with the warmest of that air still to arrive on Thursday when temperatures could rise as high as 33°C across Donegal which would be some of the warmest temperatures the county has ever seen.
There will be a significant risk of severe thunderstorms later in the day at present I think it could be closer to the night hours before these develop with frequent and damaging lightning, moderate hail, heavy downpours, flash flooding and the risk of isolated tornado. When these storms develop they will do so very quickly and become what we call in the weather world explosive due to how quick the develop.
I will be issuing a thunderstorm risk map in the coming hours so stay tuned.

Viva la Vida is one of the biggest hits of Coldplay's career, featured on the album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008). Written by all members of the band.
Released as a single in 2008, the track became a worldwide phenomenon, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and several other countries.
The song was recorded during a period of experimentation by the band, with the production of Brian Eno, who helped to give the album a more ambitious and different sound than what Coldplay had been doing. Viva la Vida also sparked controversy for allegedly sampling a song by the band Creaky Boards (which was eventually settled in court).
"End of the Line" is the closing track on the album Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 (1988), the side project that brought together George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne.
Although it was not a very successful hit on the American charts, the track gained enormous popularity thanks to the video filmed inside a train car, where an empty chair appears in honor of Roy Orbison, who had died during the mixing sessions.
Traveling Wilburys was created when George Harrison needed a band to record the B-side of a single. Jeff Lynne, who was producing George's solo album at the time, suggested calling Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison for a jam session. What was supposed to be something fast became one of the most beloved albums of the 80s. "End of the Line" perfectly sums up the spirit of the group: friendship and the certainty that even when the line comes to an end, the music (and the connection between them) continues.

Wednesday will be another sunny day it will be very warm and hot day with temperatures between 23C to 31C warmest in the south, midlands, west and northeast.

🌡️ TEMPERATURES INTO THE 30S ON THURSDAY 🌡️
The ECMWF model this morning has upgraded temperatures once again, now indicating 30°C more widely across the country, particularly in the east, midlands, west, and northwest. It's looking highly likely that many areas could experience low 30s across Ireland 31°C or 32°C, leading to very hot conditions.
I'm also reviewing some parameters for thunderstorms, and based on the current models, we might see fairly severe thunderstorm activity on Thursday evening and night. I’ll keep monitoring the situation, especially for western, northwestern, northern, and eastern counties, which are most at risk. Some models have recently indicated that Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim & Mayo may face a particularly high risk of severe thunderstorms.
