2/2 Horrific mental torment – complete chaos… my mind trapped, racing, restless, looping, doom, erupting, agitation, unable to find a single moment of stillness.
Zero comfort, rest, peace or safety.
Major cognitive dysfunction.
Severe inner and outer restlessness – unable to sit still. For a time I was pacing, rocking, and screaming for hours each day. Also for years I’ve been fidgity and other physical restlessness.
Extreme electricity surging through my whole body – like being electrocuted, constantly connected to an industrial power line.
Excessive adrenaline - like rocket fuel surging through every cell.
Extreme monophobia – feeling like a terrified child who can’t be alone, yet physically being completely alone.
Profound depersonalization/derealization (DPDR) - disassociation: Nothing feels real, not the world, not other people, not even myself. It’s as if an invisible wall of glass separates me from everything, including my own being. There is no sense of connection to anyone or anything. For years, devastatingly, my own children have not felt like mine, and my family has seemed like strangers. Everything feels foreign, unnatural, and impossibly distant. Stuck in a hellish acid-trip.
Crushing claustrophobia in open spaces – needing to escape my own body but being unable to.
Complete anhedonia – zero positive emotions and feelings, no ability to feel love or pleasure.
Explosive suicidal impulses – with such force and urgency they demand immediate action. For 3.5 years this was constant at extreme levels.
My mind overwhelmed by relentless, intrusive images of me ending my own life.. thousands upon thousands of times, like a cruel loop I couldn’t escape.
Even the most basic tasks or decisions can feel impossible and intensify the terror, agitation, and suicidal urgency.
For years, I couldn’t even lie down unless I passed out from exhaustion. I was lucky to get two hours of sleep a night and had periods I didn’t sleep at all, night after night.
Now, when akathisia allows, I can at least physically rest more – and my body desperately needs and demands it.
I believe my adrenals are fried from years of chronic, traumatic akathisia, alongside the damage it’s caused to my brain, body, and nervous system. I also live with major PTSD.
It’s truly miraculous that I’ve survived to this point.
In August last year, I experienced a sudden shift, some of my akathisia symptoms began to improve quite drastically.
These days, I still live with akathisia, but it’s no longer at constant, extreme levels. Though, some symptoms remain relentlessly debilitating, and at times others worsen.
Even with these improvements, my circumstances are still incredibly difficult. It is still a fight for me to survive.
I fully agree with the medical literature that states some people experience akathisia mostly or purely internally, with little to no outward movements or visible restlessness.
There is so much more to this barbaric condition than what I’ve written here..some aspects defy explanation altogether.
Like so many others, the losses I’ve endured because of akathisia and other pharmaceutical injuries have been profound and devastating.
I was denied been able to raise my children… they were the very heart of my world, my joy and pride. They are grown now and we aren’t close like I wished for because my circumstances have kept me almost completely away from them.
I’ve spent most of the past 14 years isolated and alone, with no real quality of life. I’ve lost nearly everyone in my life, except for my dear mum, who has stood by me.
It’s crucial to keep sharing our stories and posts about akathisia. Not only does it inform people who have never experienced it, but it also reaches those who are suffering without knowing that what they are enduring has a name.
I strongly believe that when people realize what they’re experiencing is akathisia, it gives them a better chance of survival”

Ten years ago today, my world changed forever.
My uncle Stephen wasn't supposed to die. He wasn't terminally ill. He wasn’t even depressed. He went to his doctor with mild anxiety and trouble sleeping.
Then he was prescribed a medication.
Within a short space of time, he developed a devastating adverse reaction called #akathisia…..a state of unbearable inner torment that many people have never even heard of. It took everything from him and resulted in his death.
At his inquest, the coroner ruled that he died "while the balance of his mind was disturbed," and the medication was recognised as a contributing factor.
But that has never felt like enough.
Because Stephen wasn't just a statistic or an inquest finding. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend. He was kind, funny, incredibly talented, and loved by so many. He should still be here.
For ten years I've carried his story…..not because it's easy, but because silence helps no one.
Since then, thousands of people from every corner of the world have reached out to me with stories that sound heartbreakingly familiar. Different medications. Different countries. The same unimaginable suffering. And many stories likes Stephen’s have sadly come before his death too.
That's why today isn't just about Stephen anymore. It's about every family left searching for answers. Every person living with medication-induced injury. Every life changed by an adverse reaction no one warned them about.
Today is Prescribed Harm Awareness Day.
If this is the first time you've heard the words prescribed harm or akathisia, please don't scroll past.
Not because it will change the past. But because it might change someone's future.
If Stephen's voice can save even one life, then his voice is still being heard 💜

Thank you, @MidUlster_DC for marking #PrescribedHarm Awareness Day by lighting it’s Council buildings purple.
Tomorrow, we remember those who have lost their lives to medication-induced suicide, stand in solidarity with their families, and show support to all those around the world living with iatrogenic conditions 💜
@PaddyORuadhan Aww, how lovely, my granny was Mary Cunningham, died in 1972 when I was very young, my granda was from Tuam in Galway both my mother’s side, my dad from Antrim so I’m very mixed Irish blood but always follow my ancestors. 💚❤️
BREAKING: County Mayo coroner refuses to investigate harrowing death of elderly man in hospital
Seán Burke and Dr Isaac Burke recently reported on the inhumane death of our elderly neighbour after he was admitted to Mayo University Hospital with a urinary tract infection.
This man was a single farmer who lived alone with no immediate family. We looked after him for years providing hot meals and maintenance around his house.
While in hospital our neighbour was prescribed powerful anti-psychotic drugs and sedatives including Haloperidol and Midazolam. These drugs leave patients unable to eat, drink, communicate or even see the food left at their bedsides. Our neighbour suffered severe dehydration and malnutrition. In the weeks leading up to his death he would lie in a stupor, strapped to his bed with rails up on either side, catheter installed, and cold food left on a tray untouched at the end of his bed.
We visited him continually and raised concerns with doctors, nurses and healthcare staff. We were met with silence with one nurse saying about his treatment, “It’s all been agreed.”
We reported the death of our neighbour to An Garda Síochána in Castlebar. Garda Maura Hopkins confirmed at the end of February that a formal investigation had commenced with a PULSE number assigned. Three weeks later Garda Superintendent Deirdre Gill wrote to us denying an investigation had ever been stood up and saying an investigation would never be opened. Her reason was that the person listed as “next of kin” raised “no issues or concerns with the treatment of [the deceased] at MUH.” The fact that we had provided care to our neighbour for years, visited him daily in the hospital, were eyewitnesses to the abuse he suffered and were willing to make statements meant nothing to An Garda Siochana.
We then requested the Mayo County Coroner Dr Eleanor Fitzgerald to hold a public inquiry, an inquest into this man’s death. She has refused to do so.
Not only in Mayo University Hospital but up and down this country elderly people are lying in hospital beds, drugged on anti-psychotics and sedatives, with food left at the end of their beds where they cannot touch it. Food is being wheeled away and dumped. These people are dying before our eyes.
We cannot say we did not know. It is our duty to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
If you have a family member, friend or neighbour in hospital we would encourage you to visit them as often as possible and raise concerns with staff, with management, and with your local politicians if you see abuse. Don’t be intimidated, don’t be afraid to speak out. Every life is precious.
Prescribed Harm Awareness Day is almost here…… and we need your voice 💜
Every share, every conversation and every personal story helps shine a light on the often-overlooked risks of prescribed medications and gives validation and hope to those who feel alone.
Whether you host a picnic, create some art or poetry, share your story, or simply repost our message, you are helping to raise awareness that could save lives.
Together, let's honour those we've lost, stand alongside those living with prescribed harm, and push for safer prescribing, informed consent and change.

WE DID IT!!! 🎉🥳💜
I have a confession though…..I massively underestimated what was ahead of us 😂 Whoever described it as "a boardwalk" needs to have a word with themselves.
We had this beautiful vision of today.…glorious sunshine, breathtaking views, loads of photos, heartfelt videos, deep conversations, and a moving livestream from the summit.
Reality had other ideas.
Five minutes in.…pulled groin.
Google promised the first 4km gravel path was FLAT... Google, you're a liar 😭
No phone signal for our tribute songs.
The weather had clearly packed a personal grudge against us.
Even at the very first stile…AT THE VERY BEGINNING might I add!! One of our hikers fell over, falling into what can only be described as a fresh serving of cow 💩
A kind group member rushed over to help...
...and promptly ended up covered in cow poo too 🙌🏻🤣
Honestly, if anyone had been filming us, we'd have gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
And after climbing over 2,182 feet and completing an 11km (7 mile) trek with hundreds of steep steps.….
NO VIEW!! 😂😂
We'd climbed all the way to the top only to discover we were being treated to the deluxe cloud experience. Visibility…..About three feet! I'm fairly sure we entered a completely different climate at the summit.
But maybe that was exactly how it was meant to be.
We weren't looking at the clouds.….
.…..we were in them ☁️💜
Those final steps felt like we were climbing into something almost otherworldly.
Standing there, completely surrounded by cloud, was exhilarating, humbling and somehow incredibly peaceful. All the chaos from below had simply disappeared. The noise, the rush, the distractions.…they were gone.
For those few moments, it felt like there was nothing but stillness.
For a walk in our loved ones memory, it couldn't have felt more fitting 💜
There were definitely moments I wondered if I was going to make it, but every single time I thought about stopping, I thought about Stephen. Without him, I can honestly say I'd never have attempted anything like this. I know others were the same. Every step was for him, his legacy, and every family affected by prescribed harm.
To everyone who donated, shared our fundraiser, sent messages of encouragement and supported us from afar…..thank you 🙏🏻
Today's walk wasn't perfect.
It wasn't picturesque.
It definitely wasn't glamorous.
But it was unforgettable.
And somehow.….despite the clouds, the pulled groin, Google's "flat" path, the lack of signal and the now legendary first-hurdle cow 💩 incident.…
It turned out to be the best day ever!
For Stephen. For Darren. For Conall. Always. 💜⛰️
We will be keeping the fundraiser open until Stephen’s Anniversary and Prescribed Harm Awareness Day 29th July - every donation is so much appreciated 💜

The long-awaited trial of Lindsey Clancy is now underway, bringing renewed attention to one of the most heartbreaking and complex cases in recent years.
Lindsey, a labour and delivery nurse and mother of three, had no criminal history and was widely described by family and colleagues as a conscientious professional and a loving, devoted mother.
Prior to the birth of her third child, there is no public record of her receiving psychiatric treatment or taking psychiatric medication.
Following the birth of her youngest child, Lindsey was diagnosed with postpartum depression and entered psychiatric care. According to legal filings, she was prescribed numerous psychiatric medications over a period of just a few months.
Her family has since alleged that she was prescribed around 13 different psychotropic medications in approximately four months, raising serious questions about psychiatric polypharmacy and patient safety.
In January 2023, an unimaginable tragedy unfolded. Lindsey killed her three young children before attempting to take her own life by jumping from a second-floor window. She survived but was left paralysed from the waist down.
Her defence argues that Lindsey's mental state had become profoundly altered in the months leading up to the tragedy, with reports that she experienced disturbing thoughts and auditory hallucinations. Prosecutors, however, maintain that she was criminally responsible for her actions. It is now for the court to carefully examine all of the evidence.
Since the incident, Lindsey has remained paralysed and, according to her legal team, has described feeling emotionally numb and has expressed a wish to die.
Her parents have consistently described her as a loving and devoted mother who adored her children. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, has spoken publicly of the unimaginable loss suffered by the family while also pursuing legal action against healthcare providers involved in Lindsey's psychiatric treatment.
As this trial unfolds, families around the world who have experienced medication-induced harm will be watching closely.
This case is not simply about postpartum mental illness. It is also about whether sufficient attention was paid to the potential risks associated with multiple psychiatric medications prescribed over a short period of time. It raises important questions about informed consent, adverse drug reactions, akathisia, medication-induced behavioural changes and the safety of psychiatric polypharmacy.
No verdict can ever undo the devastation suffered by this family. Three precious children have lost their lives, and countless lives have been changed forever.
Whatever the outcome…….it is vital that every aspect of Lindsey's treatment is examined with honesty, transparency and scientific rigour. If prescribed medications contributed in any way to this tragedy, those lessons must not be ignored.

NHS TRUST FACES ‘UNPRECEDNTED' CORPORATE MANSLAUGHTER INQUIRY
I've been waiting to announce this. The Times as always have been ahead with breaking news.
@Fhamiltontimes
I will be working closely with the police, to see this action against, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, to fruition.
“The wider ramifications for the delivery of mental health services in this country will be profound.”....
I will work tirelessly to never let another Mental Health Trust inflict sorrow like they have upon my family & friends.
Grace, Barney & Ian deserve this.
All families in our country deserve to be safe and this is yet another step forward to my goal.

❗️Here it is. Please RT 🙏
The major piece of news I have been waiting to share
⬇️
@NHSNotts UNDER CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION FOR CORPORATE MANSLAUGHTER.
@thetimes
‘Detectives (@northumbriapol ) have informed the trust’s bosses and told them to preserve all records related to the June 2023 attacks.
The trust said that it would co-operate with the inquiry.
The move is likely to send ‘shockwaves’ through the NHS as it shifts the case against the trust from treatment failures to the question of whether it was directly responsible for the killings’.
COMMENT:
As a trust we hold you to account for the loss of our son, for Grace and for Ian.
Yes - YOU.
To all of the negligent, inept and failed clinicians, practitioners and managers.
TOP DOWN.
You WILL be held to account.
You (alongside the Calocane family, the @nottspolice, @leicspolice and @CPSUK ).
You have blood on your hands. You know it, I know it, and now the country will know it.
Whatever it takes, you will be held to account.
I will post in full tomorrow….

The future of medicine depends on one simple principle: listening to patients.
For decades, many patients reporting persistent adverse effects after medications such as finasteride and SSRIs were told their symptoms were unrelated, psychological, or impossible.
Today, that landscape is changing.
• Regulatory agencies have acknowledged risks, including suicidal ideation associated with finasteride.
• Researchers around the world are investigating the biological mechanisms behind persistent medication-related syndromes.
• New studies continue to explore neurosteroids, inflammation, the gut microbiome, hormones, and other pathways that may help explain these conditions.
Science advances by asking difficult questions—not by dismissing those who are suffering.
Patients deserve to be heard.
Researchers deserve support.
Medicine grows stronger when evidence and compassion work together.
For Henry.
For Conall.
For Romaine.
For Marc.
For every patient still waiting to be believed.
