May is shaping up to be a busy month. π It is hard to believe but we will actually be staring our ABC Countdown on May 23 !! What an opportunity to reflect on the growth in my friends and remind them of all the challenges they have met because they are competent and capable.
We had a wonderful STEAM day yesterday. Thanks to Nβs grandma we had some @homedepotcanada kits to work with. Between hammering, adjusting, painting and marvelling at what we had done we had quite a day. @HCDSB_k@hcdsbsteam
Today for Earth Day π we practiced our promise to God to be Stewards of the Earth π and picked up litter. Earth Day is recognized today but we think everyday is Earth Day π #hcdsbk@HCDSB_k
Once again St. Christopher is looking for your Christmas trees π²We love repurposing the trees to build forts, create new worlds, use branches for painting etc. you can just drop your tree over the fence whenever you want over the Christmas Season. πππ
@NicholasFerroni@booksmiles1 The berries on our Advent wreaths this year come from the cemetery where my parents rest. I collected them from the bins after the cemetery asked people to dispose of their Christmas memorials. I will take anything if I think I can use it for my studentβs learning.
Today we light our first candle of Advent - Hope. We are called to hope and in children hope is very accessible. In Room 103 I see and hear hope in action every day. Today let us view Hope as simply and as profoundly as a child.
An observation during Morning Message that the helper has a letter no one else in the classroom, has led to an investigation. We found we had none, solo letters, partners, small groups and a few party letters - we are looking at you A and I πππ @HCDSB_k
When writing has a purpose children come to it with the expectation that they can do this - A is writing a birthday card with all the things she likes to do at a party. D is labelling out new dustpan and brush. Different writing forms for different purposes. @HCDSB_k
We use Morning Question for many things but one of the most exciting is when the children feel confident enough to come back and read it during the day. #emergentreading#purposefulwriting#hcdsbk
Forest Friday learning. Today we had a circle of life moment. A squirrel πΏοΈ had been hit by a car and died. So we prayed We had just spoken about decomposing leaves in the forest so it was a great way to connect - we are born, we live and we die in a simple yet understandable way
Having fun and playing with the alphabet is a great way to introduce phonemes and graphemes. We have been having a lot of playing with sounds and then disguising the graphemes. #emergentliteracy#phonemesfun#iamnotthisletter
Today is a celebration of our motto βkindness is magicβ World Kindness Day! It was so easy for my friends to think of kind acts that others have shown them. β€οΈ
We remember - this week the children discussed why βwe rememberβ and their reasons were well thought out and most of all hopeful. Let us pray that their hope is contagious, and that children everywhere can live in peace.
We had so much fun hosting the Halloween Dance-A-Thon Assembly today. A reminder that each $2 pledged gets a ticket for a chance at some awesome prizes ! Like a photo shoot where you can look like Superman or Hermione π§ββοΈππ»π @STCBurlington
