BMA arrests Mozambican nationals with 46 fraudulent passports at Kosi Bay

The Border Management Authority (BMA) has made a major law-enforcement breakthrough at Kosi Bay, intercepting two Mozambican nationals attempting to enter South Africa with a cache of fraudulent passports.

Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato confirmed that on 18 December, BMA officials stopped a silver Volvo S40 carrying the two men. A search of the vehicle uncovered forty-six fraudulently stamped Mozambican passports hidden under the mat in the boot, along with R34,890 in cash, believed to be proceeds of illegal activity.

“The suspects attempted to bribe officials with the cash and resisted arrest,” Dr Masiapato said. “Our officers acted decisively, bringing the situation under control. Both individuals have been arrested and charged with fraud, bribery, and resisting arrest.”

The operation highlights the BMA’s zero-tolerance approach toward corruption and transnational organized crime. Dr Masiapato, who was overseeing operations on the ground, emphasized that border security remains a top priority as movements increase ahead of the festive season.
